00:00 Well, in today's current kindness, 23 ABC's Ruby Rivera introduces us to a
00:04 local Girl Scout who has made 12 dog beds for puppies and recently donated
00:09 them to the current County Animal Services. There we go. I think she likes
00:15 it using PVC pipes and other materials. 13 year old Grace Cuddy O raised money
00:20 to build and donate 15 dog beds to the current County Animal Shelter. Her
00:24 efforts earned her a silver project award, but she says she's always loved
00:27 dogs and would have done this either way. Cario says this project took months
00:31 of planning, starting to collect donations in February through yard
00:34 sales and delivering the final product in August with her love for animals.
00:37 Cario says it was a no brainer to make these beds as she's concerned about the
00:41 conditions many of them face. They deserve better home than just being in
00:44 the animal shelter, and they're usually just like being on the floor and in the
00:48 summer, it's usually hot, even though they're like inside, it can still tend
00:53 to be hot since it's concrete. The floor community engagement coordinator
00:57 for current County Animal Shelter, Berkeley Hanley says having these beds
01:00 off the ground is ideal for the shelter as it makes cleaning the kennels a lot
01:04 easier. Hanley says the shelter has roughly 300 kennels in the addition of
01:08 these beds will improve the dogs quality of life after hundreds of
01:11 thousands of dogs chewing on them. This is to be to get to what our beds look
01:16 like. Sometimes, obviously, you know, that's not great for them anymore. Um,
01:21 and it holds more germs. It's not so cozy. So we're gonna give his puppy a
01:25 nice brand new bed that still has the legs that doesn't have any holes. It's
01:28 gonna keep it up off the floor. She says each bed looks to be high quality and
01:32 important features since these beds aren't solely for sleeping. Hanley says
01:36 dogs often use the beds as toys, which can take a toll. Hanley says she is
01:39 impressed by videos work and her drive to coordinate the project and hope it
01:43 inspires others. People talk about how much worse things get every day, but now
01:47 you still have not even just people, Children out here thinking, What can I
01:51 do to make a difference for homeless animals in my community? So I think it
01:54 really gives you hope, hope for the community and hope for the future.
01:57 Kern County Animal Shelter says they're so grateful for Cuddy was efforts and
02:01 hope others can follow in her footsteps so that more dogs can have warm beds in
02:05 Bakersfield for beer. Vera 23 ABC News connecting you.
