00:00 Welcome back. We are less than a month away from the return of the great Kern
00:03 County Fair. You can help staff the Lions Club food booth at the fair and
00:07 receive a nice perk for your efforts. Joining us in studio a Scarlet saving.
00:11 Good morning, Scarlet. Good morning. So there you get to be fed, right? That's
00:14 the perk. That's one of the many. That's only one. All right. Okay, very,
00:18 very good. So just how many people does the Lions Club need to help staff this
00:23 booth? They're always very busy. They're always very busy because the host
00:27 Lions booth is right by all of the agricultural and all of the animals.
00:32 And it's right at that corner, correct? And they're the only ones that are open
00:35 for breakfast. They have quite the killer breakfast burrito. Just saying
00:38 so all the F. F. A. Kids go over there. Exactly. And they're the only ones when
00:42 we need our java in the morning. They're the only ones that have that
00:45 are open for java. Yeah. So, uh, so how many people are you looking for and for
00:50 how long? What are the shifts? The shifts are about five hours apiece.
00:53 They start from early in the morning, you know, six a.m. All the way through
00:58 close at 10 p.m. And so they're about 4 to 5 hour shifts typically. And it's
01:04 just so much fun. And so when you volunteer, you pay your admittance and
01:08 your parking, but then they reimburse you at the end of the shift. And so if
01:12 you pick a day where there's a concert or something, you go in early, do your
01:18 work, get your dinner, they feed you from the Lions Club boot and then you
01:23 go see your concert. So that's what we have. A lot of people do. Oh, that's
01:26 okay. So they strategically say, I want to work this Tuesday or Wednesday.
01:30 Absolutely. Kind of thing. So those are some nice incentives. And what age
01:34 group are we looking at? Because they serve alcohol. We 21 and up, uh, just
01:40 for safety reasons. And but it's so much fun. Like if you do want to, like,
01:44 just even go to the fair on a special, like on the last day, a lot of people
01:47 love to go on the last day of the fair. They always need help for that. And
01:51 it's really nice. It benefits the host lions, the Baker. So Ronald McDonald
01:55 House and CSUB Bakersfield. And so it's three great organizations that all do
02:00 amazing things in our community. And so and it's a lot of fun. We have people
02:04 that as soon as we send that email out every year, they are on it. And so this
02:08 is probably our 10th 12th year doing this with the host lions. It's fun. Let
02:12 me ask you. So then is there has there been a problem of getting volunteers?
02:16 Sometimes? Well, since you know, because we're still bit everyone always
02:19 talks about coming out of Cove it in the fair kind of with the first year
02:23 out, it was kind of sketch. And then it just seemed like it really picked up
02:26 last year and this year. I mean, it hasn't been a problem getting people.
02:29 Absolutely. Because people we always have a few people things come up, so
02:33 we'd rather overstaffed than understaffed. And the more volunteers
02:37 that we get for the house, then that means we raise more money from the
02:40 event because they also pay us on the number of hours that our volunteers
02:45 work at the fair. And then our McDonald's owner operators we love,
02:50 they supply all the coffee so we get proceeds from the coffee as well. So
02:54 we're always working it. You get that perk. Yes, we get that that perk. But
02:58 it's just, you know, the fair is such a great experience to see all of our
03:02 friends in the community anyway. And so it's just another way to help the
03:06 bakers will run a McDonald house and every dollar raised stays right here to
03:10 support our house. That's what's so great about it. Now, if people want to
03:12 get involved with this, how do they contact you or the Lions Club? How does
03:16 that work? They can call the house and we will direct them to the email of the
03:19 person handling the scheduling. And I'm and I also know they have the email
03:23 that they're going to share with the viewers today on emailing our contact
03:27 directly. All right, very, very good. There you go. If you want to get to the
03:29 fair, do a little work. It's between September 20th and October 1st.
03:33 Correct. For those dates, if you have some time to volunteer and help out a
03:37 great cost scarlet seven. Thanks for being in studio this morning.
03:39 Appreciate it. You look pretty good in that chair over there. Thanks. There we
03:42 go. All right, let's go jump over to Brian. No, Brian, she's no, I'm not.
03:46 That's not what I meant. Wow. I know what you meant. Just kidding. What a
03:52 cool opportunity to volunteer. Jump at that opportunity, folks.
