Romualdez, lawmakers join Customs in surprise inspection of rice warehouses in Bulacan  Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, along with other lawmakers, joins the Bureau of Customs in another surprise inspection of several large rice warehouses in Bulacan on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, amid suspicions that hoarding is driving up the price of the staple grain. With him are House of Representatives' Deputy Majority Leader Erwin Tulfo, Bulacan 5th District Rep. Ambrosio Cruz, Jr., and House Committee on Agriculture and Food Chairman Mark Enverga. The group inspected Gold Rush Rice Mill, Gold Rush Rice Mill 2, JSS Rice Mill and another rice warehouse that had no marking or signage. 00:00 "We have a warehouse and a lot of container vans that come here. So it's right that we have enough supply. But we see in other warehouses that there's a shortage of rice bags, local or imported.

00:17 "So when it comes to us, it seems like there's a shortage of stocks. And our information on the ground, in Manila, in NCR, small shops are saying that the price is high because there's a shortage.

00:33 "Others know that the world market is rising. What we see is that they are hoarding. They are waiting for the price to rise. When the price rises, they will say, 'Oh, the price is high, so we will sell this.'

00:51 "So if you have supplies, you should sell them right away so that the shops and wet markets won't have a hard time. Because the people are having a hard time.

01:02 "So we are fighting, especially the imported, if the documents are not complete, if the payment is not correct, there's a process. If there's not enough for two weeks, they will take it and give it to the executive. If it's the GSWD, DA or Cadiwa Source, they will distribute it to lower the price of rice and the production of sufficient supply."

Sigurado tatlong van na yung naka-store dito. Kaya dapat talaga, noon pa, linabas."

02:42 "Yun ang warning natin sa lahat. Kapag gawin mo yung tama, unang-una kung anong supply niyo, lalabas mo agad sa tamang presyo. Wag kahi magpapakas ng presyo. Peski nakuha mo ng mababa, wag mo hintayin ang world market at sabihin mo tuturin mo ang world market o presyo sa Vietnam. Kasi matagal na na-stock up itong supply siyo."

03:10 "Nagbabantay kami. At balik-balik kami dito, hindi lang dito sa entire city pero sa warehouses, especially sa Bularang, Mauritia, kung saan po na naka overstocks or nag-hold, i-inspection natin. At kailangan iraid ng hostels, ipapairad natin at ipigigay natin sa ating mamamayan sa tamang presyo."
