Marcos names new Agriculture secretary  President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appoints fishing tycoon Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. as secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA). Marcos made the announcement in a press briefing in Malacanang on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023. Laurel takes over from the President who appointed himself DA chief following his election in 2022. 00:00 I have just administered the open office for the secretary, for the new secretary of the Department of Agriculture,

00:13 I truly believe and I think I was proven right that there are many things that only a president position,

00:23 and the secretary of the Department of Agriculture, we have included because he has been in the fisheries industry for a long time.

00:32 He started in fishing, but he has already entered the various fields of agriculture.

00:42 He understands what the problem is, if not the solutions to that problem.

00:49 And beyond that, he already knows the people, the so-called experts, the professionals, he already knows them.

00:58 And he should have seen them easily to help, to give solutions to the problems in the field of agriculture.

01:10 And the new thing that we have not yet felt in the history of mankind is climate change.

01:29 And the opportunity that he gave me to serve in the agriculture sector. As the president, I intend to continue his activities and programs in the agriculture sector.

01:45 In the coming days, I will lay out to you the plans and activities of my office in coordination with our president.

01:55 I will prioritize the sustainable agriculture of our country and ensure that it reaches the needs of every Filipino.

02:06 I intend to ensure that there is enough and substantial food that our countrymen can buy at the right price.

02:15 I will prioritize the modernization of the agriculture sector, while also doing good to our brothers and sisters who will grow and fish.

02:29 We will ensure that they benefit from the fruits of their labor and efforts.

02:36 Our brothers and sisters will grow and fish are close to my heart because it is my personal and their hard work that they face.

02:47 I hope that my duty for all of you will always be open.

02:52 Today I will proceed to the Department of Agriculture and meet everybody. An ang ingin ko sa ngala talaga sa ngayon is food cooperation.

03:05 Dahil importante ng buo ang departamento sa isang goal, which is basically modernization at the increase of production.

03:17 Yan rohan pa ising operatong ni Presidente at yung mga plano ni Presidente i-implement namin to the government.
