Families along canals preparing for storm surge
People who live near the coastline and canals of Pasco County, Florida, say they're preparing for storm surge and flooding from Idalia.

00:17 out and her family away from the water.
00:19 She's worried for people choosing not
00:21 to evacuate and staying on the coast.
00:23 Unfortunately,
00:23 they're looking to get it probably the worst,
00:26 but hopefully it keeps going away from us.
00:28 But you know you gotta be prepared.
00:30 Gotta be prepared 'cause all too many
00:32 times we think it's coming for us and
00:35 it doesn't and you know this could be
00:37 the one many have lived here for decades.
00:40 Pete DiCaprio just bought a house
00:42 next to a canal two weeks ago.
00:44 I'm staying put.
00:44 I mean if it's not if they really
00:47 say it's starting to get bad.
00:48 Of course I'll try to ditch,
00:50 but you know at that point I'm gonna.
00:53 You know, stick stick by and
00:54 see and wait it out.
00:56 People are filling sandbags,
00:57 hoping their town won't be in
00:58 the direct path of Italia.
01:00 It's hard because then you're
01:01 wishing destruction on somebody else.
01:03 So and I don't want anybody to have to
01:06 suffer. Locals say they're grateful
01:08 for the meteorologists working around
01:09 the clock to forecast the path of
01:12 this powerful storm and I just want
01:14 to say that Accuweather does a great job.
01:16 It's an app that I look check out
01:18 every day for information,
01:20 so keep up the good work.
01:22 Many of these communities along
01:23 the Gulf Coast are under mandatory
01:25 evacuation orders. Authorities are
01:27 telling people to evacuate now and not to wait.
01:30 There's only so many bridges and
01:32 roads in and out of these areas in
01:35 Hudson Florida for Accuweather.
