00:00 Hey, but thank you. We have new information about a racially motivated mass shooting in Florida.
00:04 Police are now saying that a white gunman killed three people, black people, at a dollar store
00:08 in Jacksonville. Community leaders gathered last night to remember those victims, including a 19
00:14 year old store employee, along with a young father of a four-year-old girl. Here's ABC's Morgan Norwood.
00:20 This morning, we're learning more about the white man accused of gunning down three black people
00:25 at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, leaving a community stunned. They didn't deserve this.
00:31 We cannot have someone come from another county and shoot up this community.
00:39 It ain't no black on black crime. It's a hate crime. Investigators say these videos show 21
00:48 year old Ryan Christopher Palmetto shooting one victim in a car outside the store, then going
00:54 inside and murdering two more people before turning the gun on himself. The FBI now investigating the
01:00 Dollar General rampage as a hate crime. Investigators say the gunman had writings on
01:05 him that were racist, along with the swastika painted on one of his weapons. The manifesto is
01:11 quite frankly the diary of a madman. What is irrational? What is irrational thoughts?
01:17 He knew what he was doing. Police say Palmetto had no prior criminal history, but in 2017,
01:22 he was held at a mental health facility. Investigators not elaborating. Still,
01:27 officials say Palmetto bought the firearms used in Saturday's shooting legally. Recent data from
01:33 the FBI shows hate crime rose nearly 12% between 2020 and 2021, reaching the highest level since
01:40 tracking began in the early 1990s. Back in Jacksonville last night, mourners gathering to
01:45 remember the three victims. 52 year old Angela Michelle Carr, Dollar General employee AJ LaGuerre,
01:52 age 19, and 29 year old Gerald Deshaun Galleon, father of a four year old daughter.
01:58 I'm just going to have to pray and ask God to give me the words and the strength
02:02 to sit her down and tell her, because she's so young and all she knew was her daddy.
