Hello everyone and welcome to HW news English. We bring you the latest update on the tragic landslides that have struck Shimla. The devastating natural disaster has claimed the lives of many, leaving the entire region in shock. Let's delve into the details.

So far, the aftermath of the three major landslides that hit Shimla has been grim. The efforts of the rescue teams have led to the recovery of 27 bodies from the debris. The most significant recovery efforts have taken place at the Shiv temple, where 20 bodies have been retrieved. Additional bodies were discovered in Fagli and Krishnanagar, adding to the toll.

The search operation at the Shiv temple site has now been concluded. The bodies of Neeraj Thakur, aged 45, Samayra, just 4 years old, and Pawan, aged 64, have been found. As of now, no other missing persons have been reported. Our teams have worked relentlessly to bring closure to these families, says Shimla SP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi

The devastation has led to significant challenges for the local population and travelers alike. Due to the landslides blocking the road to Mandi, hundreds found themselves stranded. Relief camps were set up to provide shelter to the affected, with over 900 individuals seeking refuge near Pandoh on the Kullu-Mandi road.

CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “The situation is dire, and we are doing everything in our power to support those affected by this tragedy. Food packets were distributed to approximately 950 individuals in the relief camps on Wednesday night. The government remains committed to ensuring that every citizen receives the assistance they need during these trying times.

The landslides have left their mark not only on human lives but also on the region's infrastructure. The Kallu-Mandi highway remains blocked, with vehicles stranded on either side of the landslide-hit area. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and reopen vital transportation routes.

The recent wave of rain-related incidents has left Himachal Pradesh in mourning. This month alone, around 120 people have tragically lost their lives due to landslides and other rain-related incidents, with nearly 80 of these casualties occurring since August 14. Since the monsoon began on June 24, a total of 242 lives have been lost in the state.
As Shimla and its surrounding areas grapple with the aftermath of these devastating landslides, our hearts go out to the families who have lost their loved ones and to the survivors who are now facing the challenges of rebuilding their lives. The resilience of the community, the dedication of the rescue teams, and the support of the government and volunteers are shining examples of human compassion in the face of adversity.
That concludes our coverage of the tragic landslides in Shimla.
