00:00 With back to school, jumping from lax summertime rules
00:04 to having to wake up early five days a week can be tough,
00:08 but there's one thing experts say
00:09 could make all the difference, unplugging at night.
00:12 So one big thing that every parent should do,
00:15 it's just keep connected tech out of the bedrooms.
00:19 FARC's chief parenting officer, Titania Jordan,
00:22 says lack of sleep causes kids to have a hard time
00:24 staying awake at school,
00:26 which then makes their retention and grades suffer.
00:29 She recommends setting a bedtime for electronic devices,
00:32 such as phones, iPads, video games, and television,
00:36 and keeping those devices
00:37 out of your kids' bedrooms overnight.
00:39 But then the pings and the dings wake them up,
00:42 and then they're up from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.,
00:44 and so many children are going to school the next day
00:47 and struggling, struggling with focus,
00:49 struggling with their mental health,
00:51 and schools are reporting that back to us,
00:54 saying, you know, these kids, these kids are up all night.
