Nvidia's Chinese Chip Dilemma

Nvidia warned that further US export restrictions on its AI chips to China would mean a "permanent loss" for American semiconductor companies to lead in the Chinese market, one of the world's largest. Nvidia said current export regulations are achieving goals but that additional restrictions could significantly impact its business long-term since China is a major market, accounting for 20-25% of its data center revenues. The US aims to limit China's access to technology that could have military uses through export controls, but Nvidia argues this would sacrifice American competitiveness in a key market. Nvidia's CFO reiterated warnings about challenges from further geopolitical trade restrictions between the US and China. Demand for Nvidia's AI chips in China comes from companies conducting large-scale AI training.
