00:00 I'm happy to share with you all today that we have in the past few months launched, our
00:06 own chief minister launched the Meghalaya Homestay Scheme which is really a unique scheme
00:10 in the country because it converges the existing PMEGP scheme with the scheme from the tourism
00:16 department wherein we are able to give almost 7 lakhs for a 10 lakh project as a subsidy.
00:22 We have tied up with the Meghalaya Rural Bank and really facilitated the entire process
00:29 so that it's very fast to apply, very fast for the inspections to happen and for sanctions
00:33 to happen and we felt that it's important that we showcase one of the best practices
00:40 in the country, in the region, in the world on homestays as a unique tourism product.
00:48 Today's traveller is trying to travel to unique destinations.
00:55 This buzzword is experiential tourism and we just saw the experiences that Shrutika
01:03 had when she came and this is something that the traveller really values.
01:09 In our beautiful state, especially in the Garo Hills which is a biodiversity hotspot,
01:14 which is a cultural hotspot where we have our unique traditions, our dances, our folklore,
01:22 our storytelling, our craftsmanship, our food, our connect with motherland, with nature,
01:29 with the environment and forests.
01:31 Everything is so beautiful that for a tourist this is a great learning and a great experience
01:37 and in this way we not only showcase our proud heritage and culture to the people who come
01:43 as guests and travellers but in doing so we are able to also preserve it for our generation
01:48 and the future generations.
01:49 Therefore tourism is such a beautiful sector and a beautiful product wherein all this can
01:55 happen in a sustainable and responsible manner and therefore I am very happy that this program
02:01 has been organized here today with the effort of the Outlook Group, with the effort of all
02:06 involved including our Assistant Director and the tourism officers of the Garo Hills
02:10 region who have taken great pains to put this together.
02:13 I am sure that each and every one of you has something unique and something that you have
02:20 learned that you can take away and implement in your homestays or in your destinations.
