00:00 Tens of thousands evacuated as emergency services battle wildfires on the Spanish island of
00:06 Tenerife and in northwest Canada.
00:13 Officials say around 26,000 people have been forced to flee wildfires on the Spanish island
00:18 of Tenerife.
00:20 Strong winds and higher temperatures have helped to spread the flames of a huge forest
00:24 fire, while the difficult terrain and billowing smoke are hampering the emergency services'
00:29 efforts to control it.
00:31 On Saturday, firefighters said there were still three active areas of the fire.
00:36 "The areas where we have to attack the fire are perfectly established, and the areas where
00:43 we are also doing defensive work."
00:47 And in Canada, at least 19,000 people have been evacuated from the city of Yellowknife,
00:52 according to officials in the northwest territories.
00:54 They said 15,000 people fled by road, 3,800 were evacuated by air, and at least 300 firefighters
01:01 were mobilized to fight the flames.
01:04 Thousands of British Columbia residents were also on high evacuation alert on Saturday.
01:13 Officials in Ukraine say a Russian missile strike killed seven people and wounded 117
01:18 others in the center of Chernigov in the north of the country.
01:22 Acting Mayor Alexander Lomako said a six-year-old girl was among the dead, while the wounded
01:27 included 12 other children.
01:29 Vladimir Zelensky condemned the attack, which he said hit buildings including a theater
01:33 and a university.
01:35 The Ukrainian president is visiting NATO candidate Sweden for the first time since Russia's illegal
01:40 invasion.
01:41 He held talks with Prime Minister Ulf Christensen to discuss military aid and defense issues.
01:47 President Vladimir Putin visited top military officials overseeing the Ukraine offensive
01:51 in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don.
01:54 The Russian armed forces said on Saturday that they foiled a Ukrainian drone attack
01:57 targeting Moscow and the wider region.
02:00 The Russian army also claimed to have eliminated 150 Ukrainian soldiers who were trying to
02:05 cross the Dnieper River, a front line in southern Ukraine.
02:12 A delegation from the group of West African nations known as ECOWAS arrived in Niger Saturday
02:18 on a last-ditch diplomatic effort to reach a peaceful solution with mutinous soldiers
02:22 who ousted the country's president last month.
02:25 They were joined by the UN Special Representative for West Africa, Leonardo Santos-Sameo, who
02:30 is trying to facilitate a resolution to the ongoing crisis.
02:34 ECOWAS is also fine-tuning a military intervention plan should no diplomatic solution emerge,
02:40 but there appears to be no shortage of volunteers in Niger who would oppose any military force.
02:44 "I will support our military, for example, the one I am in the middle of now."
03:00 Neighboring Mali and Burkina Faso have also warned they would consider any intervention
03:04 in Niger an act of war.
03:13 Two Israelis were killed in a suspected Palestinian shooting at a car wash in the occupied West
03:18 Bank on Saturday.
03:20 The Israeli military is searching for the attackers and setting up roadblocks near Hawara,
03:25 a flashpoint area in the northern West Bank.
03:28 The town has seen repeated gun attacks as well as a rampage by Jewish settlers who torch
03:33 Palestinian property.
03:35 This latest incident comes after a 19-year-old Palestinian died of his wounds following an
03:40 Israeli military raid in the West Bank on Wednesday.
03:49 England and Spain will lock horns in the final of the 2023 Women's World Cup in Sydney on
03:54 Sunday.
03:55 England star Lauren James will return from a two-match ban, a major boost for national
04:00 team coach Serena Wiegman, who will be leading the Lionesses into their second successive
04:05 major tournament final following Euro 2022.
04:09 Just like England, La Roja will also be competing for their first ever World Cup title.
04:15 Sam Aschew is in Sydney.
04:17 Well, it wasn't the final that the locals dreamt of, but still plenty of interest ahead
04:21 of Women's Football's showpiece event.
04:22 For England and Spain, this is uncharted territory.
04:25 Neither side have been to this stage of the competition before.
04:28 La Roja have had off-the-field issues to contend with, whilst the Lionesses will be looking
04:32 to go one step further following that European Championships victory last summer.
04:36 80,000 fans will be at Stadium Australia for this one.
04:39 Either way, they will be witnessing football history.
04:42 Sam Aschew, for Euronews in Sydney.
