00:04 Artificial intelligence, which has been at the center of public debate as both the usher
00:08 of a new age of tech and the destroyer of jobs, threatens to put many of our favorite
00:13 voice actors out of work.
00:15 Thankfully, the SAG-AFTRA union has been fighting back.
00:19 Yahoo reports that Zeke Alton, a voice actor and member of the SAG-AFTRA Interactive Contract
00:24 Negotiating Committee, said that actors and writers aren't asking for an end to AI technology.
00:30 Instead, they want a baseline agreement that if their work is used, a company will ask
00:35 for consent and pay for that use, as well as provide transparency around the use of
00:40 data for training or machine learning.
00:42 According to SAG-AFTRA, the interactive agreement covers off-camera, voice-over performers, and
00:48 on-camera motion capture, stunt performers, stunt coordinators, singers, dancers, puppeteers,
00:54 and background performers.
00:55 When you take the humanity out of art, the art will fall flat.
00:59 Video games are a collaborative team effort of people that range from huge international
01:03 companies to small indie teams with no budget and an endless passion for games.
01:08 We've all played amazing games which fell flat because of bad voice acting, or games
01:13 that went above and beyond their technological capabilities to deliver a strong story thanks
01:18 to their talented casts.
01:21 Voice-over is the soul of the gaming industry and we must not let it disappear.
