00:00 had two breast reductions in life before I turned 18.
00:03 Raven-Symoné is opening up about how she went under the knife for several cosmetic
00:08 procedures as a minor. On Sunday's episode of her podcast with her wife, Miranda Pierman Mayday,
00:15 the best podcast ever with Raven and Miranda, the former Disney Channel star shared who most
00:20 encouraged her to get plastic surgery at such a young age. Okay, yeah, I'm sorry. And you also
00:27 said before the age of 18. Yeah, before the age of 18, which means you were a minor. Correct.
00:32 There was paperwork involved. My dad suggested strongly that I should get my breast reduced.
00:39 My breast reduced. You're that 10 times fast. I know, right? And he was like, so you don't feel
00:45 bad. Is there anything you want? I was like, what? I was like, yeah, if I get lipo, will people stop
00:49 calling me fat? And so I got a two for two for one. So the oh, the lipo was free. In my head.
00:57 That's how it was presented. And then it was just like a mess. It was just a mess. Just being that
01:02 young and the pain of it all. The 37 year old actress's wife then asked her how the recovery
01:09 was for such intense procedures. Oh my gosh, wait. So did you go to like a recovery center? Because
01:15 my sister had her tonsils taken out. And she went to a recovery center. And it was this like bougie
01:23 house that all of these women who had just had facelifts and boob jobs and whatever done. And
01:28 they were all walking around. And she's just like, my tonsils. Huh? hilarious. Yeah, I went to
01:33 a recovery center. But that was for my that was for another procedure.
01:38 So after this one, you just went home. After this one, I went home. I don't think I went
01:44 anywhere. I might have gone like for a couple days, but I don't remember because I was so young.
01:47 I'm gonna be honest with you. I was like, disassociated. Despite the experience, Raven
01:51 decided to undergo another procedure when her breasts were quote, still too big from gaining
01:56 weight again. I just associated so the recovery was, you know, a little painful. I have scars.
02:04 I still have scar tissue to this day. And they actually I gained weight after and had to like go
02:09 back for a quick little like a little bit more out because they were still too big for others.
02:14 feelings. That was the number two. That was the number two. The cheetah girls alum also revealed
02:19 that she wound up having a seizure while she was under but she still didn't know what it was caused
02:25 from. Not that first one that I had. I actually had a seizure when I like woke up from the surgery.
02:30 And I remember waking up and seeing everything and I was like, and then I just started to have
02:34 this dry mouth and couldn't breathe. And then I went back under and they were like, Oh, yeah,
02:38 you had a seizure. Thanks for telling me. That is so was it from the anesthesia? I don't know
02:43 what it was from. I didn't really inquire until later. Because they didn't. It was a long story.
02:49 And babes, we should know because in case you ever need to have anesthesia again, I should know if
02:53 that causes you to have seizures. Yeah, for sure. When I had my am your emergency contact. This is
02:57 true. You are when I had my other little procedure done. I had anesthesia and I didn't come. I didn't
03:02 have a seizure. So I think it was just like, specific to that moment. Did you have anesthesia?
03:07 Yeah, obviously your wrist. Yeah, I had anesthesia when I broke my wrist for sure. Yeah. And I had
03:13 anesthesia when I got my wisdom teeth pulled. So I'm good. It's just like, just knowing that
03:18 the reason I opened my eyes and like couldn't swallow or breathe was because I was having a
03:22 seizure and like remembering that moment, but not remembering the seizure kind of like still
03:25 freaks me out a little bit. And maybe that was just a lot for the body to handle. I'm sure
03:30 and not any were probably Do you remember how long the surgery was?
03:35 Raven and Miranda launched their new series earlier this month, and they tied the knot in
03:40 June 2020. Access Hollywood chatted with a couple back in March at the 2023 GLAAD Awards,
03:46 and they shared some sweet details about their marriage.
03:49 Oh, yeah, we know Miranda. Come on, darling, even though it's been like, what, three years.
03:54 You guys. I mean, three years. June. You're not new to this girl. You're not new. But but
04:01 Raven, Raven. Sorry, sorry. No, no, no. I'm gonna ask her. Do you have to still culture
04:06 before you come into the red carpets like, No, no, no, you don't really know my wife.
04:10 I'm the one who gets coached. And it's okay about I'm okay with that.
04:13 We coach each other. It's mutual coaching. That's marriage, right? Yeah. Okay.
04:18 You know, you're right. It's a good thing. But it does take some work. It does take some work.
04:22 Now we're here at the GLAAD Awards. How important because we know Raven, my girl,
04:28 we know you advocate. How important is it for you guys to both be here tonight?
04:32 I think it's very important to be able to show face in an event that
04:36 really talks about inclusivity and is the like, our group of people.
04:44 We're married women and this organization make sure that, you know, what we need in our life
04:51 is represented and stands up for us. So I think it's very important.
04:55 Actually, that's also and I want to ask you some questions to Miranda, but being around for so
04:59 many years, have you seen the change? Because I was asking Jane Lynch, she said 15 years ago,
05:03 it wasn't even a lot of press to cover these events. Have you seen the change
05:06 and the growth of these events over the years? I mean, most definitely there's growth,
05:10 but I'm going to be 100% honest. I haven't been a part of GLAAD my whole entire life.
05:15 So I wasn't a part of it at the very beginning. I just started to, you know, show myself. So
05:20 even now, you know, being able to be here and see the growth that it has is beautiful. And
05:25 for sure. I mean, we're still making strides to be better and to make movements in the world.
05:31 So vocal, your movements, even if it's a short period of time, girl, listen,
05:36 we know you're a part of the community because you are so supportive. And it's like, I know that's
05:39 something to do with probably your partner, Miranda, your wife, like, do you feel like you
05:43 just want to champion for her all the time whenever she comes to events like this?
05:47 Totally. I love being here with Raven as her date. I love just being on her arm. I think she's
05:52 fantastic. It's fun to have a little date night. This is a bit hectic, but it's awesome to, as
05:58 Raven said, be in an event that feels really inclusive and celebrates and supports us and
06:03 our love and other people like us and our love. So yeah, it's great. It's awesome.
06:08 Speaking of your love, I want to know what happens with the fashion. When you guys leave
06:10 the house, who puts on what outfit first and who says, okay, I'm going to match you because I do
06:14 that with my girl. Like sometimes she'll put on an outfit. I already have mine. I'm like,
06:17 let me go change. How does it work with you? How did it work tonight?
06:21 Well, our stylist, shout out to J Sky, says that, he says that you're the frame, I'm the frame,
06:31 and she's the flower. So that's how it always kind of works. And we always kind of have to,
06:35 this is new to me. I'm not used to having to be like styled and matched and tell a story. So
06:40 flower and frame, here we are. But tonight I'm the flower cause I'm colorful. And I'm the frame.
06:45 Whatever. You look good. You look good.
06:48 (upbeat music)
