00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:08 Following big WWE PLEs, there's normally a bit of a reset on the programming.
00:13 New feuds, new alignments, returns, debuts, etc.
00:16 We saw this on Raw last night, with New Day returning, Shinsuke Nakamura solidified heel
00:20 turn and new feud, Chad Gable being awesome, etc.
00:24 But there's one name that's reportedly been discussed that could be returning soon.
00:28 According to PWInsider, there have been some rumblings recently within WWE of a Nia Jax
00:33 return to the company.
00:34 Jax made a surprise appearance in this year's Royal Rumble match, but she was not re-signed
00:39 and that was seemingly just a one-off deal.
00:41 Nia obviously wasn't at Raw last night, but she could be back before long if this
00:44 report is to be believed.
00:46 Now that Ronda Rousey will be leaving WWE screens indefinitely, there's certainly
00:50 a bit of a hole to fill.
00:51 Would you like to see Jax back in WWE?
00:54 Let me know in the comments, though I think I could guess the answer already.
00:57 There's another person in the women's division that's going to be out for a while,
01:00 as the curse of the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships continues.
01:05 After reports that WWE were hoping to settle down the women's tag belts after Chelsea
01:09 Green and Sonya Deville won the belts, it seems that plan is now out of the window,
01:13 as Sonya has torn her ACL.
01:15 This was initially reported by TMZ, and PWInsider adds that Sonya is extremely well regarded
01:21 backstage and there's a lot of sympathy for her with this injury.
01:24 But ACLs are quite severe, requiring a lot of in-ring time to be missed, as we've seen
01:28 in the past, so we at WrestleTalk would like to wish Sonya the best in her recovery.
01:33 While nothing official was announced on Raw aside from the injury itself, no tournament
01:37 or anything to crown new champs, PWInsider is reporting that there is already a plan
01:41 in place for the women's tag team titles, which is probably better than they're used
01:45 to for the women's tag division, so silver linings I guess.
01:48 We'll just have to wait and see what those plans are.
01:50 Sonya herself confirmed these reports and spoke about it on...X...still hate that, posting
01:57 a video where she said, "I've torn my left ACL last week on SmackDown in my match against
02:01 Bianca and Charlotte.
02:02 I'll be out for an extended period of time due to the fact that I have to get surgery
02:07 tomorrow.
02:08 Obviously it's super bitter to say that it's come to an end due to an injury, especially
02:12 it being my first injury in wrestling or sports in general.
02:15 Once again, I swear those titles are cursed, and once again, I'd like to wish Sonya the
02:19 best in her recovery."
02:20 There's some very interesting news coming from backstage in WWE though, as for last
02:25 night's episode of Raw, PWInsider is reporting that Nick Aldis was backstage and working
02:29 as a producer.
02:30 There have been reports of WWE being interested in Aldis for a long time, and while I'm
02:35 sure there's plenty of people out there who would have liked to have seen Aldis join
02:38 WWE in a wrestling capacity, this seems to give some foundation to rumours of his signing
02:42 with the company.
02:43 Meanwhile, there's another producer role given to a wrestler, as Fightful Select is
02:48 reporting that Bobby Roode was expected backstage at Raw last night too, being a producer.
02:53 He reportedly wasn't on Summerslam run sheets and is most likely shadowing, which seems
02:57 to be a natural move for Roode as he's been out of action wrestling-wise for a year.
03:01 Now over to Luke.
03:03 For now, it's time for the return apparently a lot of you have been waiting for, the star
03:08 man, the face that rates this place, Mark Mucks.
03:12 And Mark, welcome back.
03:13 Hello Luke.
03:14 You're welcome.
03:15 You've missed me.
03:16 Well I'm so excited to be here to remind you to reset your body clocks to Tokyo time.
03:21 New Japan's G1 Climax is in full swing, and this year's line-up is unbelievable.
03:26 Honestly, Mark, I've been loving it so far.
03:29 Oh really?
03:30 What's your favourite match so far?
03:32 Oh, you want to ask?
03:33 Oh yeah, sure.
03:34 I loved the Eddie Kingston, Tomohiro Ishii match.
03:38 The flying headbutt thing, it was so good.
03:39 You mean the match between The American and The Sellout.
03:42 As if Luke, open your eyes.
03:44 A much better pick for match of the year was Sonata vs Kaito Kiyomiya on Night 7.
03:48 The story here was that in this, NJPW's crown jewel tournament, their world champion
03:53 was being taken to the limit by an insurgent wrestler from a secondary promotion.
03:57 Not only that, but each man has a shared history with the legendary Great Muta.
04:02 So the opening stages of the match were brilliantly slow, with each man feeling the other out,
04:05 not wanting to make a mistake, and as the match progressed there were counters upon
04:08 counters upon counters, and before we knew it, Kaito had started working over Sonata's
04:12 knee, aiming to cut off his offence for the last 5 minutes.
04:15 Draws are an important part of the G1, but the drama created through this match added
04:19 an extra layer of tension to the closing stages.
04:22 With time checks coming thick and fast, the near fall started piling up, until Sonata
04:26 managed to muscle Kaito's shoulders to the mat for the 3 count, with 2 seconds remaining.
04:32 I mean Luke, what a year it's been, these matches keep getting better, and this one
04:36 was 11 stars.
04:38 How in the blue hell have we arrived at 11?
04:50 Well, I've enjoyed this match as much as I enjoyed the last one, which was 10, and I'm
04:56 excited to be back, so 11 stars.
05:06 Thank you Mark.
05:15 And now it's time for my review of Monday Night Raw, aka the bloody hell you can clearly
05:20 tell that Vince McMahon was messing around with this show for the last few months but
05:23 is now injured and can't mess around with it anymore edition of Monday Night Raw…
05:27 in about 5 minutes.
05:28 The show opened with a long recap of Summerslam with Michael Cole - sorry Kevin Patrick - touting
05:33 the show's success, which he attributed much of it to Cody Rhodes who came out for
05:37 a promo to set up his next feud.
05:39 It could possibly be Seth Rollins who came out to essentially challenge Cody for the
05:43 belt.
05:44 Now on paper, this is a good thing.
05:46 It's a big program for Seth, it's a big program for Cody and, importantly, it's
05:51 a big program for the title which really needs it.
05:54 The problem is that Cody Rhodes has been so vocal about not wanting to win that belt because
05:59 it means Jack Spit to him and it isn't finishing his story that it's hard to get invested
06:05 in any story they might want to tell with Cody vs. Seth.
06:09 The Judgment Day came out and did their usual shtick, and Balor attacked Rollins from behind.
06:13 Sami ran down for the save and I smell a trios match, player.
06:16 Rollins seemed annoyed about all of this, which played into the rest of the show as
06:19 he and Cody could not get on the same page or be cool with each other - even though Sami
06:24 did his best to play peacemaker.
06:26 There was a fatal four way to crown a new number one contender to Gunther's IC title
06:29 between Chad Gable, Tommaso Ciampa, Ricochet and Matt Riddle - which makes a lot of sense
06:33 when you think about it.
06:34 Gable earned this chance by taking Gunther to the limit last week, Ciampa earned this
06:38 shot by losing to Shinsuke Nakamura last week, Ricochet got this chance by losing to Logan
06:44 Paul at Summerslam, and Matt Riddle got this chance by losing to Ludwig Kaiser last week.
06:51 Oh wait.
06:52 Cynicism aside, this match ruled.
06:54 Because of course it did, look at the talent in the ring.
06:56 There were some really cool, crazy and inventive spots, and a brilliant finish that saw Chad
07:00 Gable try to hit the Chaos Theory Suplex on Matt Riddle, but Ricochet stole the move to
07:04 hit the recoil, so Gable tried to hit Ricochet with the Chaos Theory Suplex, but that move
07:08 was stolen by Ciampa with a Famouser, so Gable instead hit the Chaos Theory Suplex on Ciampa
07:12 for the win.
07:13 Great finish to a great match, and a brilliant next contender for Gunther.
07:18 Shinsuke Nakamura ended his feud with Bronson Reed by beating him in a decent little match,
07:22 which was a nice bit of tidy booking as it fed into the main event - more on that in
07:25 a little bit.
07:26 Raquel Rodriguez still can't get cleared, but hey, at least she's found new friends
07:29 in Candice LeRae and…
07:33 Who is that?
07:34 Oh, it's Indi Hartwell!
07:35 Yeah!
07:36 I forgot she was called up.
07:40 Isn't it funny how Vince has this life-altering surgery and the following week we get the
07:46 on-screen returns of Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell?
07:49 It's funny that, isn't it?
07:51 And you can tell this was definitely a Triple H book show as there was only one women's
07:53 match on the show and it was pretty heatless.
07:55 It was set up by Becky Lynch hyping her match next week with Trish Stratus, but was interrupted
07:59 by Zoey Stark who was interrupted by Shayna Baszler.
08:02 We then got Baszler vs. Stark, which was slightly overshadowed by Becky making overt references
08:07 to not being booked on Summerslam and Triple H's seeming digs at her social media activity
08:12 during the post-show press conference.
08:14 You see, she brought lemonade with her to the show - the one she made because she wasn't
08:18 wrestling on the PPV and Wade Merritt described it as "not bitter at all".
08:22 She then did the Triple H spit after Baszler picked up the win.
08:26 The positives here is that I was worried that Baszler might fall to the side after the Ronda
08:30 feud but they've moved her straight into a feud with Becky Lynch - one of the biggest
08:34 stars in the company - so that gets a big massive thumbs up from me.
08:39 But the other Becky stuff I guess is just for people like me and you - the ones who
08:43 know about the issues she's had with her lack of Summerslam match.
08:45 I don't think it's going to build to a Triple H and Becky feud, but it might.
08:50 JD McDonough chatted with Finn Balor earlier in the show and made the astute observation
08:54 that the Money in the Bank briefcase is causing issues within the Judgment Day.
08:58 Gee, ya think?
09:00 And then he attacked Sami Zayn backstage, announced that Sami couldn't wrestle in
09:03 the main event and Shinsuke Nakamura offered his services instead.
09:07 The Miz came out for a promo to call out LA Knight because brands split LOL, calling him
09:12 a flash in the pan and an Attitude Era cosplay.
09:15 Miz pointed out that he's been here for nearly 20 years and has done it all, despite
09:20 people saying that he never would.
09:22 What has Knight done?
09:23 Well Knight responded by saying that WWE would never take the chance on him because he wouldn't
09:27 have laid down and taken all of the BS that Miz had to put up with in his early run.
09:33 Instead the company kept betting on the wrong horses.
09:35 Wrong horses like The Miz.
09:37 They had a brief brawl and Knight hid his finish to stand tall.
09:41 This was awesome, pun intended.
09:44 Even though Knight stumbled over his words a couple of times, he still felt like a megastar.
09:48 But it's hard to take The Miz seriously given his booking over the last few years.
09:52 He was beaten by Snoop Dogg at WrestleMania, let's not forget.
09:54 I'm not into the idea of a Knight vs. Miz feud, especially because they're on different
09:59 brands.
10:00 But this segment did make me forget about a lot of that, and hyped me to see them get
10:04 it on.
10:05 So yeah, this worked.
10:07 Yeah.
10:08 Viking Raiders issued an open challenge which was accepted by a returning New Day who beat
10:12 them in a fun little tag match.
10:14 It's so great to see Woods and Kofi back on screen.
10:17 They then told NotKathyKelley that they wanted to win the tag belt.
10:20 Sadly it's not good news for the other tag belts as they announced Sonya Deville's
10:24 injury and that they need to figure out what they're going to do with the belts.
10:28 And the main event saw Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins and Shinsuke Nakamura beat Judgment Day in
10:31 a decent trios match when Cody and Seth worked together to pin Finn Balor.
10:36 Sucks to be Finn Balor.
10:38 Cody and Rollins finally shook hands, but then Nakamura attacked Rollins to establish
10:41 himself as the next contender for the belt - which is a great choice.
10:45 And this was a really good epilogue edition of Monday Night Raw.
10:49 It tied up some of the stuff from Summerslam and set us up with stuff for the next few
10:53 months of TV.
10:54 It also felt like the most Triple H show since Vince came back into creative, and that was
10:59 very refreshing.
11:00 And this was a refreshing 4 out of 5 episode.
11:04 The Summer Season of WrestleLeague came to a dramatic climax at Summerslam, which means
11:08 it's time to officially announce our amazing winners.
11:11 Our Summer Season Champion is Steve Beebe, who amassed 103 points and will receive a
11:17 $250 Amazon voucher as his prize.
11:20 But there was a three-way tie for second place, but thanks to their superior tiebreaker question
11:25 skills William Winslow and Adam Kent took second and third place to win $150 of Amazon
11:31 vouchers respectively.
11:32 Sure, the Summer Season is now over, but the Autumn/Fall Season is just weeks away, and
11:37 it starts with a banger at AEW All In.
