00:00 Taylor Swift's longtime truck driver is singing her praises after the pop star recently gave a
00:06 reported $55 million in bonuses to people working on her Eras tour, including $100,000 each to those
00:16 in charge of hauling her equipment from city to city. Mike Schirkenbach, who runs the concert
00:22 transportation company Show Motion and who has worked on three of Taylor's stadium tours,
00:28 tells Rolling Stone in an article published August 3rd, "She's giving a sum of money that
00:34 is life-changing for these people. A lot of these drivers are not homeowners, and a lump sum like
00:40 this gives you the ability to put a down payment on a home. That's what makes me really happy.
00:46 That generosity is a game-changer for these people." Show Motion and another company,
00:51 Upstaging Inc., are both in charge of transporting the 33-year-old's equipment,
00:56 including parts of the stage, lights, guitars, microphones and speakers, per USA Today.
01:02 Mike further explains Taylor's generosity, noting that the bonus is not only unprecedented,
01:09 but 10 times the normal amount. He adds, "There are a lot of very wealthy people who choose not
01:14 to share a dime of it. We work with all kinds of wealthy people, but this is not the norm."
01:19 While the musician herself wasn't the one to present the bonus checks to the drivers,
01:24 Mike reveals to Today that a person very close to her did, her dad Scott, and that wasn't the
01:30 only thing she gifted them. Mike tells the outlet, "He presented handwritten letters from Taylor.
01:36 It's incredible that they would take that time and what it means to our staff to be recognized."
01:41 Taylor began her Eras tour in March, and according to trade publication Polestar,
01:47 the entire run has so far generated an estimated $300 million in gross revenue,
01:53 and it's far from over. Taking to Instagram on August 3, on top of her already scheduled
01:59 international dates, Taylor announced additional North American shows are happening next year,
02:05 writing, "Turns out it's not the end of an era. Miami, New Orleans, Indy, and Toronto.
02:11 The Eras Tour is coming to you in 2024 with Gracie Abrams."
