00:00 2 to 5 peso fare increase is now implemented in LRT lines 1 and 2.
00:05 The fare hike was announced last month, but some passengers, especially those who seldom take the train, were still surprised.
00:13 Of course, it's the budget. I didn't know that it's going up now. I'm glad that I have a VIP card.
00:19 For those who regularly take the LRT, like students bound for the University Belt Area, they say they will just look for ways on how to make ends meet.
00:29 The fare is not that big, so it's very difficult. I mean, it's budgetary, but sometimes we save on food just for the massage.
00:38 I'm the only one who will adjust. For example, on water, I'll just pay for the fare instead of buying more.
00:45 In LRT 1, the base fare is now at 15 pesos, while the end-to-end trip is at 35 pesos for single journey tickets.
00:54 As for stored value tickets or VIP cards, the minimum fare is 14 pesos, while the maximum fare is also at 35 pesos.
01:03 In LRT 2, the new fare is almost similar with that of LRT 1, except the end-to-end fare, which is 33 pesos for VIP cards.
01:13 The 2 to 5 peso fare increase in the LRT may be just a small amount for some, but for the minimum wage earners here in Metro Manila,
01:21 the latest 40 peso wage increase will just go to their transportation fare if they are taking the LRT.
01:28 It's a big deal now, because the daily fare and the purchase of goods are increasing.
01:36 Light Rail Transit Authority Administrator Hernando Cabrera says the government already provides around 160 peso subsidy for every passenger per trip.
01:47 Based on their projection, LRT 2 will have an additional 100 million peso annual revenue with the fare hike.
01:54 They will use this for operations and maintenance of the system.
01:58 We will use the funds from the fare hike to return the passengers through better service, a more convenient trip for our passengers.
02:10 Unlike LRT 2, a private company operates LRT 1. The company says they are investing on expansion projects like the LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension.
