00:03 - How about this one, the Cubs?
00:04 And they'll tell you flat out,
00:05 about a week ago we were gonna be sellers,
00:07 now we're buyers.
00:08 They had Jamer Candelario here
00:09 from the Washington Nationals.
00:11 And I say this with a bit of sadness.
00:13 Like I really liked betting the Washington Nationals.
00:16 They didn't have great pitching.
00:17 The lineup started to come around.
00:18 Totals were a lot of fun.
00:19 And a lot of these guys were producing.
00:21 This is a nice move here for the Cubs,
00:23 but also keep in mind, the Nationals go,
00:24 okay, we're not gonna stop there.
00:26 And other guys will be on the market lane.
00:28 Thomas there, we'll see if that one goes through.
00:30 But Candelario to the Cubs, this is interesting.
00:32 They were looking to move Marcus Stroman at the deadline,
00:36 then move maybe Cody Bellinger.
00:38 Now those guys are staying, they're adding.
00:39 We'll see what happens.
00:40 But the Cubs actually waking up and saying,
00:42 hey, Joe, we are a big market team.
00:44 We can actually do this.
00:47 - Well, I mean, this was his walk year anyway, right?
00:49 And there's probably a good shot
00:51 that Washington was not going to open the checkbook
00:55 for anybody at this particular point.
00:57 So it makes total sense if you are the Cubs.
01:01 And listen, how are you going to sell that you're the Cubs?
01:04 And as you were the lovable losers for a hundred years,
01:08 but the reality is you have a fan base
01:11 that expects to win and wants to win every year.
01:14 So to be in a spot where you're in a mediocre division
01:19 and a win streak here or there,
01:23 and all of a sudden you are now competing
01:25 not only for that division, but for a wildcard spot.
01:27 How are you selling to your fans?
01:29 You're selling off.
01:30 I mean, that would be absolute mutiny and it didn't happen.
01:34 And what they ended up doing now, and call me crazy,
01:36 the argument can be you bring in the switch hitter here
01:39 who's having a phenomenal year.
01:40 He's only 29 years old.
01:42 He gets for power, he can seal some bases.
01:45 He locks down third base.
01:47 Maybe just maybe we're underestimating the Cubs as a player
01:52 because the Reds have taken all the headlines.
01:54 Maybe the Cubs are that one team, Donnie,
01:57 that we say every year is gonna come from the clouds
02:00 and nobody sees them coming.
02:01 Maybe the Cubs are that team.
