Fishing at Carr Vale ponds, Water Lane, Bolsover.
Transcript
00:00 In a recent letter sent in to the Derbyshire Times, a reader was critical of the current state of the
00:04 Carvel fishing pond in Bowlesover, claiming there are no longer fish to be caught there.
00:08 One of Carvel Pond's bailiffs, Phil Turton, wished to set the record straight on these claims.
00:14 Here he is describing how he and his team keep track of the pond's fishing stock.
00:18 "And we have a catch report, whereas if anybody catches anything or any sizes and so on,
00:24 and they'll let me know, some want to share them on Facebook and stuff and some don't want to share
00:29 any. Which is not a problem to me, we just make sure that if they do tell me they don't want me
00:34 to go any further, at least we know what we've got in terms of stock. For example, this year we've
00:41 had quite a few carp that have been caught over 20lb, one of them pushing up to 30lb.
00:49 And we've had some of them that have been caught at just under 20lb and then dropped back to 17lb
00:55 after spawning and then they're picking back up again to 19lb now that have been caught. So we
01:00 know that the fish have spawned and they're in good health and yeah, we just keep a check on
01:05 the stock. So there's plenty to go at in terms of numbers of fish." "But that's the worry,
01:09 they're probably bream then because there's a shoal of bream that swim together
01:16 in a group of about 10 which is looks like that but it's the same
