00:00 College is a time for students to learn,
00:01 and way they can learn is actually having a dorm room
00:06 or apartment that looks and feels good.
00:08 And that's so important, Leslie, is that--
00:10 It is.
00:10 You know, these kids have had their rooms here at home,
00:13 you know, looking really nice and stuff,
00:15 but they get to college and they're blank.
00:17 There's nothing there.
00:18 There's no way to decorate them in a fun way.
00:20 People think that.
00:21 But all-- and decorating-- let's make sure, college students,
00:24 get ready.
00:25 I'm going to be honest with you.
00:27 Decorating your apartment doesn't mean that your clothes
00:29 are in a pile in one corner.
00:32 That's not decorating at all.
00:33 That is not decorating.
00:34 No, that is not.
00:34 And that's when it's like, no, it's a pile of clothes.
00:36 No.
00:37 No, that's not it.
00:38 No, and today we're going to talk about dorm decor,
00:41 and we're going to take ordinary dorms and apartments
00:44 and make them extraordinary with style, function,
00:48 and affordability.
00:48 I like it.
00:49 And the thing, too, is also bringing some home to your dorm.
00:52 With you, 100%.
00:52 Right?
00:53 That's what we're going to do.
00:53 OK, where do we start?
00:54 So we're starting with storage.
00:55 OK.
00:56 We've got some creative storage.
00:58 So one thing I found that my daughter is
01:00 going to take back to college is a mattress caddy.
01:05 So this fits in your mattress, and then it
01:07 allows any mobile device.
01:10 They can store it, maybe a book, because they're
01:11 going to be studying.
01:12 Right.
01:13 They can put it right there, easy access.
01:15 I like it, because again, they don't know where that dresser
01:18 is for some reason.
01:19 Exactly.
01:19 They don't know it lands on the floor anyway,
01:21 so now it can slide right there.
01:22 So they can have it right there.
01:23 I like it.
01:24 OK.
01:24 Another solution that I think we can always agree on
01:27 that's so important is clear boxes.
01:30 These are stackable.
01:31 So what I'm learning about dorms, many of the beds
01:34 are high, allowing you to put items underneath.
01:37 So this will be great for storing and stacking.
01:40 And organized kids-- I'm going to talk to the kids out there.
01:43 Organize, organize, organize, because if you're organized,
01:46 then you'll be able to study much better.
01:47 Absolutely.
01:48 We want to keep it tidy.
01:50 And you can find stuff, too, not like at home right now.
01:53 So once-- I guarantee you, she's probably
01:55 going to use these, isn't she?
01:57 These are going to college.
01:58 And the towels are going to be exactly like this.
02:00 Like this?
02:01 Yes.
02:01 OK.
02:02 So some fun things just for your desk and bookshelves,
02:05 maybe some candy in a glass jar.
02:08 These are faux flowers.
02:10 OK, this is one of my favorite finds.
02:11 Before you go, listen, I'm helping parents out there.
02:14 Listen, the candy jar's perfect, because then you
02:16 want to send something once a week.
02:17 Just send some candy, and they have a place to put it.
02:19 I love that.
02:20 Yes.
02:20 There you go.
02:21 And make friends.
02:22 Right.
02:22 Hey, come on in.
02:23 Have some gummy watermelon.
02:25 There you go.
02:25 I love it.
02:25 OK, what's next?
02:26 OK, so on the bookshelf, we want a little bit of pizzazz,
02:29 some decor, but this also offers storage.
02:32 Ooh, I like that.
02:33 So maybe jewelry, some special items
02:36 that you want to kind of hide.
02:38 This is a great solution.
02:39 And guys, guys, listen, you guys there,
02:41 grab the books, because you put them up there,
02:43 it makes you look like you're smart,
02:44 even though there's nothing in them.
02:45 Absolutely.
02:45 I love that.
02:46 There you go.
02:46 OK, let's get--
02:47 And well-traveled.
02:47 There you go.
02:48 OK.
02:48 Talking about storage, everyone needs an ottoman or a stool.
02:53 This has storage, but because the beds are higher,
02:58 you need something to get raised that's raised.
03:01 And this offers storage.
03:02 I like that.
03:03 OK.
03:03 And extra accessories.
03:05 OK.
03:05 All right, we've got to move faster, because I'm
03:07 taking time.
03:07 Of course, we've got pictures.
03:08 Yes.
03:08 We need self-adhesive hooks.
03:11 Yes, you remember that, too, that if you
03:13 put stuff in the wall, you've got to take them out and paint
03:15 them, and then you get charged a little bit.
03:16 OK.
03:17 All right, so this is decor that we're
03:20 going to put on the wall.
03:21 But guess what we're going to do?
03:23 Yeah, OK.
03:23 With some pins, some clothes pins.
03:25 I'll hold it up, and then you show us how we do this.
03:27 So of course, your college student's
03:29 going to take a family photo and want to put it up, right?
03:33 That's the obvious.
03:34 But what about some really neat images?
03:38 I got these from a coffee table book that we have,
03:40 and they're super fun.
03:41 They go with the theme.
03:43 And what we're doing is these are just felt--
03:46 Here, I thought I was holding it up right.
03:47 --strings.
03:47 Oh, you're doing it.
03:48 Am I?
03:49 OK.
03:49 You're doing great.
03:50 All right, there.
03:51 OK.
03:51 There we go, Ma.
03:52 It's like a clothes pin.
03:53 Yes.
03:53 OK.
03:54 There we go.
03:54 So look.
03:54 So we're just creating art that's personalized.
03:57 And then it's going to go on the wall.
04:00 It's adding-- we can add to it.
04:02 And the pictures can change here and there.
04:04 Absolutely.
04:04 As they get friends, they put up the pictures here.
04:06 Exactly.
04:06 They don't have to worry about--
04:07 I love this.
04:07 Exactly.
04:08 This beats better than the little stick board,
04:09 I think, on the wall.
04:10 I agree.
04:10 I love this.
04:11 I agree.
04:11 This is awesome.
04:12 A little pop of personality for the door.
04:14 Very quickly, too, pillows, very important.
04:16 OK, so important, because every one of those students
04:19 spends most of their time on the bed studying, socializing.
04:23 You need big pillows to keep your back supported.
04:26 And then at night, it offers comfort.
04:28 Love it.
04:29 Yours is going to be what year?
04:31 My daughter leaves in three weeks, Brad.
04:33 And she's a freshman, right?
04:34 She's a freshman.
04:35 And how are you doing?
04:36 So I'm going to be at Pomo most of my time eating cheese
04:40 and drinking wine.
04:41 And having gone to see her.
04:42 But this is great that you're getting her all ready to go
04:45 and stuff, which is nice.
04:45 And again, knowing all the things
04:47 that they need to have to make it look good.
04:48 Absolutely.
04:48 Absolutely.
04:49 I love it.
04:50 This is awesome.
04:50 I mean, how great is it to have your mom, who
04:52 is like a decor queen, come down and decorate yourself?
04:55 I don't know.
04:56 That's the question.
04:58 Is it a blessing or is it a curse?
05:00 It is.
05:01 And of course, be happy.
05:02 She said in where?
05:03 U of A, beer down.
05:04 There you go.
05:04 All right.
