00:00 Anyone's Newcastle Restaurant Week has come around once again and it's a chance for people
00:06 to try restaurants that they may have never tried before.
00:09 But before all of that starts, restaurants across Newcastle are preparing for a very
00:14 busy week.
00:15 My Deli is just one of the eateries that are involved in Restaurant Week.
00:19 My Deli has added three new street food plates to their Restaurant Week menu and they include
00:24 some vegan options.
00:25 They've also kept their diners' favourites on the menu including their famous butter
00:30 chicken.
00:31 It is a good opportunity.
00:32 It is a fabulous opportunity that comes twice a year.
00:34 I wish it could be four times a year.
00:37 But it's a great opportunity for you to showcase your cuisine.
00:41 So from day when it started, when we started, we've always been with Restaurant Week.
00:45 It has been overwhelming.
00:46 The response has been overwhelming.
00:48 And every year we keep on improving in terms of business volume, in terms of customers.
00:52 I bring a lot of new customers who are a bit experiment because our food is a bit different
00:56 because we do the authentic food.
00:58 People are not, at times I would say, dare to eat our food because it's not a regular
01:01 curry house menu which we offer.
01:03 But Restaurant Week gives them an opportunity to come and dine and that helps us eventually
01:07 because then they can taste our food and come back to us post-Restaurant Week.
01:12 So it has been an overwhelming response.
01:14 Every Restaurant Week is a new challenge and from last month we are preparing for Restaurant
01:18 Week, you know, mentally.
01:19 The process, the staffing, the rotas, you know, and the notice to the staff, nobody
01:23 going to take holidays and off on those weeks.
01:25 And then it has been overwhelming.
01:26 It has been always been so good, you know.
01:28 It brings a lot of energy to the team.
01:30 We set up new targets and when we achieve it, it brings a lot of joy to the team and
01:34 the staff party, of course.
01:37 Anyone's Newcastle Restaurant Week is intentionally placed during those quieter weeks of the year
01:42 where restaurants may not see as much football.
01:45 But now so many people come through to Newcastle for Restaurant Week and it gives the restaurants
01:50 a boost but it also gives an overall economic boost for the city.
01:55 So everybody gets so excited when we announce Restaurant Week.
01:59 You can see the group chats starting straight away.
02:01 There is a real buzz in the city on the run up to the event as well as the event itself.
02:06 Like I say, it's not just the diners who get excited, it's the restaurants as well.
02:10 We hear from restaurants time and time again that they use the opportunity to put on new
02:14 dishes on the menu to bring out some of their upcoming chefs and really allow them to have
02:18 some of the limelight.
02:19 It's a really nice atmosphere in the week itself.
02:22 A real buzz among the city, not just in the restaurants that take part themselves, but
02:27 that's a ripple effect onto the bars in the city, to activity places as well, as well
02:32 as transport.
02:33 Last year, the two events that we put on proved a 1.8 million uplift in the industry itself.
02:40 So we know it's tried and tested and it's something people really love and get excited
02:44 for.
02:45 Over 100 restaurants are involved in Restaurant Week during the first week of August.
02:50 And whilst it will be a busy week for the restaurants involved, it will hopefully continue
02:55 to help boost their business.
