Eye-catching Design, 550 Km Range, New Volvo C40 SUV 2023-2024
2024 Volvo C40
Starting at an estimated $52,000
The C40 Recharge gets a new entry-level Single-Engine rear-wheel drive model for 2024 and also comes with a 79.0 kWh battery pack, which is good for an estimated 297 miles of driving range. All-wheel drive Twin Engine models are in the range but benefit from new, more efficient engines that increase the estimated range per charge to 400 km.
Notable additions include a 360-degree exterior camera system, power-folding rear headrests, a power-adjustable passenger seat, a 12-volt power outlet in the cargo area, and an adjustable cargo area load floor.
Rear-wheel drive is standard on Single-Engine models powered by a 248-hp electric motor. During our first test drive in Sweden, we estimate that the rear-wheel drive C40 Recharge offers fast acceleration and will reach 100 km/h in around 6.6 seconds. Speed seekers will want to pick up the all-wheel drive Twin Motor model, which comes with two electric motors that together deliver up to 402 hp. For the twin-engine model, we expect a zero-to-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds.
A 79.0 kWh battery pack is standard on Single Engine models and is said to be good for driving up to 297 miles. Underneath the all-wheel drive C40 Recharge Twin Motor is a battery pack with 75.0 kWh of usable energy storage, which should offer a driving range of around 257 miles per charge. Speaking of charging, all C40 Recharge models are capable of 200-kW DC fast charging, which is said to be able to boost the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 28 minutes. For those planning to charge at home, it is also possible to plug the C40 Recharge into a 110 volt or 220 volt outlet, but charging times will be slower.
The cabin of the C40 Recharge largely mirrors that of the XC40. This means a high seating position, smart storage solutions throughout the cabin, and premium materials and finishes. Don't expect to see leather upholstery on the options page, though: Volvo says the C40 Recharge is the first completely skinless vehicle in its lineup. Also unique to the C40 Recharge are the backlit trim panels on the dash and the doors illuminated to reveal an abstract representation of a topography map.
A touchscreen infotainment system running Volvo's latest Google Android-based infotainment system is standard and can receive software updates over the air. The system provides navigation via Google Maps and voice commands via Google Assistant.
