Transcript
00:00 I'm Mike Hart. Here's a look at what we're following on this Wednesday.
00:03 Veterans of the Korean War will be the guests of honor at a special appreciation dinner tonight
00:08 on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the armistice that ended hostilities in that war.
00:13 Thursday morning, local officials will be joined by representatives
00:16 from the Council General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles.
00:20 Mike Sable, president of the Korean War Veterans Association,
00:23 said the organization is in desperate need of new volunteers.
00:27 During the ceremony in 2021 at Jastropark, Sable told 23 how important this organization is
00:33 within the veteran community.
00:35 So many of our people here are not in a position to do those things
00:40 because they're physically not well, they need help, etc., etc.
00:44 So for me to be here above ground, being able to talk to our community,
00:49 look at the schools, the educational programs, the young people here in Kern County
00:54 that have stepped up to help generate funds for the veterans in this community is phenomenal.
01:00 If you would like to be part of the association, you can talk to representatives tomorrow morning
01:05 at the ceremony, which is in Jastropark.
01:08 It gets underway at 10 a.m. at the Korean War Memorial.
01:11 The armistice was signed on July 27, 1953, initiating a ceasefire that's still in effect today.
01:18 Taking a look now at the temperatures won't be a bad morning to take part in that ceremony tomorrow.
01:22 Today's forecasted highs 101 in Bakersfield.
01:26 The hot spots obviously in the Ridgecrest/Chinat Lake areas.
01:30 Even up in our mountain communities, the temperature is starting to fall.
01:33 Pine Mountain Club at 85 degrees, 100s throughout the valley.
01:37 Now your air quality today because of these high temperatures is going to be unhealthy
01:41 for sensitive groups just into that range at 101.
01:44 But take a look at this.
01:45 We are easing off as we head into the weekend and into next week.
01:49 Temperatures will be right about average at 99 and 98 once we get out of the triple digits.
01:54 And as you can see, also falling in Lake Isabella into the upper 90s with Tehachapi
01:59 in the low 90s, upper 80s along with Fraser Park.
