00:00 >> Coach, what's it kind of like seeing Marquez,
00:03 let your LS just kind of fit in as a bearcat and have that really defensive
00:08 mentality.
00:09 >> I ain't surprised.
00:11 He my cousin.
00:12 >> [LAUGH] >> I'm happy that he can do it on this
00:16 stage with the guys that he doing it with.
00:19 Last year he played with us.
00:20 I think they even seen his potential today and they like, man, he can jump,
00:23 he can fly around.
00:24 Remind us like what we were seeing on original Cincinnati Bearcat team.
00:28 So I think this year he had a great season over in Chile.
00:31 Shoot 40% blocking shots.
00:33 I think he's just putting on display on a national level.
00:36 Happy to get that opportunity.
00:37 >> And your points 11 rebounds for you tonight.
00:41 How big was the info dance?
00:43 >> Incredible.
00:44 We've been incredible since the first game.
00:47 I mean delivering every night first quarter of the first game.
00:50 That was a do-wop.
00:52 >> Do-wop.
00:52 >> And what he's doing defensively, offensively, I mean,
00:56 he landed out on the court.
00:57 I mean, if you didn't know him before this, you better know him now.
01:01 And that goes for the rest of his team.
01:04 You better know him.
01:05 >> Program for autism comes in second highest scoring average in the tournament,
01:09 88 points per game.
01:10 What works so well defensively that allowed you guys to shut that down?
01:13 >> I mean, that's what we're known for.
01:18 I mean, just knowing us, our resume and everything.
01:23 You see our jerseys, I mean, we're the defensive first.
01:27 So everyone got that mindset and that's how we went.
01:30 >> Jacob, how did they leave you alone on that shot?
01:33 >> Cuz they didn't want $1,000.
01:38 Yeah, it's messed up.
01:39 Which is messed up.
01:40 They just let me, I mean, I'll take it.
01:41 I don't have a problem.
01:43 I ain't seen the shot.
01:43 I don't like.
01:45 I'm sure Cash gonna say something about the transition three in the corner.
01:49 My excuse was I thought the clock was running down.
01:51 >> [LAUGH] >> It's all good.
01:53 It's all good.
01:54 That was got to win.
01:55 >> Mark, six blocks tonight.
01:57 You talked about what you were able to do defensively.
01:59 You've been in rent free, it seems like, up above the rent here this time.
02:02 Just talk about the defense and how it's all coming to you.
02:04 >> My bad, I thought it was seven.
02:06 >> I thought it was ten.
02:08 Somebody told me on the court he had ten.
02:10 >> Yeah, I thought that was seven.
02:12 But besides that, just bringing the energy.
02:16 We got two great guys that can score and we got ten.
02:19 Troy runs the game so well for us.
02:21 So my job is not to, it's really easy, honestly.
02:24 If I bring energy, I'm gonna do that anyway.
02:27 So and to be able to do it at a high level with a bunch of high level group of guys
02:32 going against another high level group of guys,
02:35 that's pretty much the determining factor in this tournament.
02:38 Every team is equally as skilled.
02:39 It's just who wants it more?
02:40 Who's gonna do it a little bit more than the other team?
02:43 And we've done it three games in a row.
02:44 And I feel like as long as we do that, we're the best team.
02:48 >> Man, now you can hoop.
02:48 Now you can freeze.
02:49 >> You were born.
02:50 >> [LAUGH] >> You were born in Cincinnati.
02:53 >> Yeah, I got attacked for a reason, but yeah.
02:58 >> [LAUGH] >> But Cincinnati's always been home.
03:01 Growing up, my mom graduated from UC, so it's real family ties there.
03:07 So I've always loved the program.
03:09 So to be able to come back and really play some of the best basketball I've played
03:13 in my life with these group of guys is amazing.
03:15 >> Looks like you had that cheer down pretty good, though.
03:17 >> Yeah, I'm gonna get it right.
03:19 >> [LAUGH] >> I'm gonna get it right.
03:21 >> Jake, you and Jaren have obviously led the scoring for all three games.
03:24 How fun is it to kind of see that cohesiveness back together again,
03:28 like it was in school?
03:29 >> Man, it's so much fun.
03:33 I always tell you, he's one of my favorite players I ever played with,
03:37 NBA, overseas, college, high school, the whole basketball life.
03:41 Just cuz his motor is always on.
03:43 He not gonna chill, you know what I'm saying?
03:46 Sometimes, when he was in school, I'd have a time in the game where I kind of,
03:50 come on, Jake, so I'm like, he on this one, I gotta be on that too.
03:54 And it's just like playing off of his energy feeds my energy,
03:57 it just feeds our team also.
03:59 So I think it's been a lot of fun.
04:01 I'm looking forward to the next few games we got.
04:05 >> Jaren, they were kind of yapping a little bit in the first,
04:08 second quarter, I think I saw you kind of, the light kind of switched a bit.
04:12 >> [LAUGH] >> What were they saying?
04:14 Cuz after that, it felt like everything you're doing was just what you wanted to
04:18 be doing for them.
04:19 I mean, I come in with a mindset, I'm not gonna be stopped.
04:22 And they turned the switch on, telling me I'm not like that, so.
04:27 >> [LAUGH] >> Y'all got a Garvey there.
04:30 >> [LAUGH] >> Got a Garvey.
04:32 >> That's what's up.
04:34 >> 26 points later.
04:36 >> Did you tell Cash that you wanted a little bit more iso's after that?
04:39 Or was it kinda like everybody knew?
04:41 >> It's just the flow of the game.
04:43 I mean, Jacob was hitting, Troy was getting to the rim.
04:45 I mean, we was getting open shots, so just the flow of the game and
04:48 just getting out of transition.
04:49 >> How was it playing with the old guys?
04:52 Is it different?
04:53 I mean, obviously they don't wanna lose.
04:55 >> Yeah, I mean, it feels good.
04:57 I mean, we still got chemistry and everything.
04:59 I mean, this year, we was way more organized and got a lot of guys buying in.
05:04 >> Do you guys see this as adding to your resume for your current careers?
05:07 I mean, it's on TV, people are saying this.
05:11 >> I'm definitely using it.
05:12 >> [LAUGH] >> I'm trying to showcase my talent.
05:14 >> I need my book, I need to clip it up.
05:18 >> Yeah, yeah.
05:20 >> You have 30 points in the paint, you all rebounded them 45, 33.
05:24 Did you feel you had an advantage inside with toughness?
05:28 >> Going into it, my biggest thing was when I watched them yesterday and
05:32 this morning, I'm like, they're not gonna finish over top.
05:35 They're skilled, mature players, but when you're so bulky like that,
05:39 nine times out of ten, you can't finish over people when they get the rim.
05:42 So I'm like, look, fellas, as long as they don't make threes, and
05:46 when we drive, don't even foul them, just let Quiz go get it, do go get it,
05:49 contest, they're gonna smoke them.
05:50 So I think at the midst of the game,
05:53 it just kinda showed exactly what we really good at.
05:55 We can beat the ball at the top.
05:57 I think if you look at any really good team, even back when we played, right?
06:01 That's really what we was good at.
06:03 Even if you get the ball in the paint, you can't score it,
06:05 cuz we got guys that can block shots.
06:06 Then you take away the three, what else do you got?
06:09 So one on one defense, I feel my guys one on one any day.
06:13 So am I surprised?
06:15 Not at all.
06:16 >> Was there any sort of chip on your shoulder coming in as a sixth seed
06:18 knowing the type of talent you guys have?
06:21 >> No, I just think everybody had to take it a little serious.
06:24 When it started to toggle me, it trickled down.
06:27 I mean, we on TV, last year we really didn't know about it.
06:30 We put this thing together, it was about brotherhood, hang out,
06:34 enjoy each other.
06:35 And now once we took the L last year, we all knew, look,
06:38 Fort Wayne wasn't better than us.
06:40 Come in this year, be able to run the tape.
06:43 >> When you guys are looking at kind of the shortened rotation you're having to
06:46 deal with right now, some guys that you maybe expected to be able to play,
06:49 not able to play as we go into this next portion of the tournament.
06:53 Has that maybe kind of been a blessing in disguise where guys know that
06:56 they're gonna have to play big minutes and
06:58 they can kind of settle in the roles a little bit easier?
07:01 >> I think after game one, you start to get a little rhythm.
07:04 And then after game two, you get a little bit more rhythm.
07:06 In game three, you start to really understand maybe what your role is,
07:09 how you can really help the team win.
07:11 The more we play, the more cohesive this group is gonna get.
07:14 The more cohesive we get, I think, being serious,
07:17 it's starting to get a little easier as we kind of move forward.
07:20 I think we got a good chance.
07:22 >> You guys get a week off now, and
07:24 you get seven times as many days to game plan on that week off.
07:29 How much importance is that gonna hold for the rest of this tournament, and
07:31 the rest going into D?
07:33 >> It's rest for the guys, rest, enjoy it, enjoy some family,
07:36 enjoy the moment a little bit.
07:37 So we gotta just come back to it right away.
07:40 And then we'll prep, like what we've been doing.
07:42 Everybody been accountable, coming into this.
07:44 This is our whole thing about being accountable.
07:46 As long as we have practice, as long as we locked in, listening to coach,
07:50 we fine, man, and we're enjoying it.
07:52 I'm not lying, Mike.
07:53 Next week, man, we might have a new pizza too, so just stay tuned, stay tuned.
07:59 >> Coach Brogan wants to talk.
08:01 >> How are you guys getting prepared for next week?
08:05 Give me the next day that you guys gonna pull up.
08:09 Party!
08:11 (laughing)
