00:00 [speaking Spanish]
00:03 Victor was pumped up before. Here he goes.
00:16 Oh, he took his mic away.
00:22 [laughing]
00:23 You were looking forward to that.
00:24 I was. I know he was fired up.
00:27 [bell dings]
00:28 Victor, I apologize for the audio crew there in Sinaloa.
00:33 Our audio crew here is absolutely perfect.
00:36 Here we go.
00:37 It's time to fight.
00:38 Main event's scheduled for 10 rounds.
00:41 The former champion in the black trunks,
00:43 black and white trunks for 27-year-old Miguel Herrera.
00:49 I will say, in the fighter meetings on Monday,
00:51 Guevara looked very fit, very trimmed,
00:53 ready to go, very focused.
00:56 Let's see if he can bring that with his world-class experience
00:59 at 34 years of age.
01:00 He has not lost, Chris, since October of 2017,
01:05 2,075 days ago.
01:09 I love that app on my phone, obviously.
01:11 Five years, eight months, and six days.
01:14 Nine-fight win streak for the former world champion
01:17 who defended his WBC light flyweight
01:20 title on two occasions.
01:25 He's asserting himself right away,
01:26 controlling the center of the ring,
01:28 really drawing a line in the sand,
01:30 showing the younger man, this is my ring.
01:33 Yeah, and you can see Herrera sort of has
01:34 that jitteriness to him.
01:35 He came out, he's hopping back and forth,
01:37 trying to sort of find his bearings in there.
01:39 But it's not a big ring, so that in and out style,
01:42 you're going to burn a lot of energy trying
01:44 to use it inside that ring, because you're always
01:46 going to feel like Guevara is on top of you.
01:48 And that's sort of how Guevara wants to make Herrera feel.
01:52 See the little-- the top right hand touches Herrera there.
01:55 And Herrera, in his last fight-- it was July of last year,
01:58 guys-- but he suffered a cut early
02:01 and was stopped at 119 of the very first round.
02:06 He would like to get back to his winning ways,
02:08 needless to say, against the former world champion tonight.
02:11 Well, if he wanted to get back to winning ways,
02:13 he didn't pick an easy one, that's for sure.
02:14 You got that right.
02:15 I'm seeing something right away from Herrera.
02:17 He needs to really be careful where he's putting his hands.
02:19 A lot of times, he's reacting to where
02:21 Guevara is moving his head.
02:23 His hands are moving with him, allowing himself
02:25 to get hit over the top, which we saw a few moments ago.
02:27 And Guevara also is using some feints in there
02:29 as well, trying to put Herrera out of position.
02:31 And with a jittery method that Herrera is fighting with,
02:35 those feints can put him out of position,
02:37 because he's jittering at just about everything.
02:39 Feints, level changes, throwing different punches
02:41 from different angles.
02:42 You can tell that the experienced veteran--
02:44 yeah, that's that shot I was talking about--
02:46 is taking in data.
02:48 He's analyzing his man in front of him.
02:50 If only Guevara now would be cutting off the ring,
02:54 Herrera would already be running out of room.
02:56 Herrera has been able to at least circle the ring.
02:58 Guevara, unfortunately-- even unfortunate for him, anyway--
03:01 even at 34 years old and all this experience,
03:03 doesn't know how to cut off the ring, as we can see.
03:06 Well, I will say for the former world champion,
03:09 his only losses have been well-respected,
03:12 world champion-type fighters in a majority or a split decision
03:16 loss.
03:18 Guevara's got great hand position.
03:19 Even when he misses shots, has a little bit off balance,
03:21 he returns to home, has the hand up.
03:23 That left hand stays up very, very tight.
03:25 Technically very sound, good balance.
03:27 Reminds me a little bit of Ricardo Lopez, El Finito,
03:29 the way he holds his guard and his hands up.
03:31 July 12th, live from our world headquarters in Tampa, Florida.
03:40 It's another action-packed edition
03:43 of our Wednesday Night Fights.
03:44 In the main event, the silent assassin, 15 and 0,
03:47 William Foster III, faces off against Venezuela's
03:52 Southpaw, Fredmil Makaio.
03:55 16 and 1 as a professional.
03:56 13 of those wins coming by way of knockout.
04:00 Join us for all the action two weeks from tonight,
04:03 Wednesday, July 12th, right here on ProBox TV.
04:06 Back live to Cinema.
04:07 [non-english speech]
04:09 The corner.
04:14 [non-english speech]
04:17 His fire, his trainer.
04:19 [non-english speech]
04:20 Skittle for 10, set for the start of round number 2.
04:31 Let's see if Herrera got rid of some of those jitters
04:33 in round number 1.
04:36 He's going to need to get rid of them soon either way,
04:38 because Guevara is going to start to close the gap more
04:40 and more in this small ring.
04:42 And Guevara, guys, ranked number 2 in the WBC.
04:47 He was supposed to fight Chocolatito
04:50 Gonzalez a while back, first boxer from Nicaragua,
04:54 to win world titles in four different weight classes.
04:58 That did not happen.
05:00 But the big win streak from the former world champion,
05:03 and he's looking to put one together again tonight.
05:06 Good awareness from Guevara there.
05:07 Ducks under a punch, catches another one.
05:09 And then that right hand, he's becoming a sniper.
05:12 Yeah.
05:12 With that shot.
05:14 He's trying to time, because that up and down hop
05:15 that Herrera has, and he's sort of--
05:17 Again.
05:18 And he's sort of timing the same hop back and forth,
05:19 you know?
05:21 And he's able to-- he's kind of timing his stone
05:22 as he's hopping off.
05:24 And Herrera is consistently moving to his left
05:26 into that power right hand.
05:29 Back in 2017 in Tokyo, Japan, majority decision
05:35 loss for Guevara as he challenged
05:37 for the WBC flyweight title.
05:40 Oh, nice counter there with the left.
05:43 Yeah, I'm impressed with Guevara right now.
05:45 He's looking very, very sharp.
05:46 Yeah, and if Guevara starts to get those counters in,
05:47 just like you just mentioned, Goldie,
05:49 you know, it's going to start to make Herrera even more gunshy.
05:52 And if Herrera gets more gunshy in a small ring like this,
05:55 it's going to spell more disaster for him.
05:56 So he's going to have to start landing something
05:59 to get the respect of Guevara, because otherwise Herrera
06:04 might be in for a short night here.
06:05 You can see Guevara getting consistently closer and closer
06:08 turning up the heat.
06:10 I mean, he's already eaten so many right hands.
06:11 Look, he cut off a ring there.
06:13 Look at that.
06:13 There we go.
06:16 Nice in and out.
06:17 Good right hand again.
06:18 And Chris, as I mentioned earlier,
06:20 nine fight win streak, five finishes, 22 career knockouts.
06:24 And that right hand finds a home again.
06:27 Herrera trying to counter and get
06:29 some momentum in his corner.
06:30 And Guevara hasn't even opened up yet.
06:32 He's just going with single shots.
06:33 He's going with that left hook counter
06:34 to the body and the overhand right.
06:36 There's a nice jab that clips Herrera on the chin.
06:38 Also a lot of mental pressure, because Guevara doesn't really
06:40 give ground when Herrera tries to fight him off.
06:42 Like sometimes, Herrera's trying to throw punches,
06:44 like, get off me.
06:45 You know what I mean?
06:46 And Guevara's really not giving ground, but yet those two
06:48 punches are still being evaded.
06:50 And that keeps the heat on Herrera,
06:52 because he can't even get a break when he
06:54 tries to fight his guy off of him.
06:55 Talk about cutting off the ring.
06:57 He did that beautifully right there.
06:58 Just took a little step to the left.
06:59 Oh, that's a good headbutt there, right?
07:01 Is that what that was?
07:02 A little mouthpiece.
07:06 Let's see.
07:07 Yeah.
07:10 I don't know.
07:10 What's going on?
07:11 That's the doctor.
07:13 That was the doctor.
07:14 Yeah, back in adjusted.
07:16 I don't know, maybe the headbutt--
07:17 The nose, yeah.
07:19 Unlatched, if you will.
07:21 The mouthpiece for a moment.
07:22 No, it's cut.
07:23 He's cut.
07:23 Yeah, it's cut.
07:24 He's cut.
07:27 He's such an experienced veteran,
07:29 he knew he was cut before we did.
07:32 Let's see if that makes him turn up the heat now.
07:34 I don't know.
07:35 I think he's turning it up here.
07:37 Oh, good jab right down the middle.
07:39 And there's that right hand over the top as well.
07:41 Good body work there from Herrera.
07:42 Nice answer.
07:43 But you know, you see how Herrera
07:44 keeps his position there?
07:46 Even though Herrera tries to fight him off,
07:47 you see how Herrera holds his position there.
07:49 And it's like Herrera has to stay under the stress
07:51 and try to keep fighting him off.
07:54 See if we get a closer look at that cut
07:56 when they're in the corner.
08:04 See what exactly happened here, guys.
08:07 Yeah.
08:09 Oh, the shoulder.
08:10 Look at that.
08:11 Yeah, right off the shoulder.
08:13 He saw that.
08:14 He knew right away.
08:15 Yeah.
08:15 That's not every day you see a cut from a shoulder shot.
08:20 Yeah, that's a jab.
08:21 That was the one.
08:21 See if we can get a look at that cut.
08:30 Hard to tell.
08:31 Hard to tell.
08:32 It's not even the hairline of the eyebrow, but--
08:35 It is below the eyebrow, Chris.
08:37 But it seems like--
08:39 I'm looking at the outside of the eye.
08:41 Marcos Hernandez, his cut man, has it under control,
08:45 at least for now.
08:48 But if you want to do a boxing 101,
08:50 and you guys do it all the time, if you
08:53 want to have a young fighter watch somebody be
08:56 brilliant at the basics, Paulie, you
08:58 could have them watch this man right here, Pedro Guevara.
09:02 Oh, yeah.
09:03 Yeah, he's got a terrific fundamental balance and hand
09:05 positioning, and knows how to both understand his distance.
09:10 You see the body shots there by Guerrero.
09:12 You see Guerrero, it's almost like he's jittery.
09:13 When Guevara gets close, he just tries
09:15 to put all the shots on him at once.
09:17 He's just kind of nervous and anxious.
09:19 And he can't really get Guevara off of him.
09:21 Those are tough guys to fight, though, guys like Guerrero,
09:23 who are jittery, strong, and fast,
09:24 and let those hands go like that.
09:26 You get hit with shots you don't expect to get hit with.
09:28 Yeah, they'll throw some weird shots.
09:29 But also, when you press them, they'll
09:31 also make some really glaring mistakes more and more.
09:33 Because they don't like this pressure.
09:34 And that right hand keeps finding their own like that.
09:36 Guerrero's not going to last much longer if he keeps taking
09:38 those right hands that cleanly.
09:39 Also, guys like Guerrero usually bite on feints,
09:41 because they're so jittery.
09:42 They're so reactive.
09:43 Nervous energy.
09:44 Yeah, they're too tight.
09:45 That's right, Jim.
09:46 Nervous energy will get them-- and that'll
09:47 also fatigue them, ultimately.
09:49 Let's see how this fight starts to shape up here.
09:52 Lot of movement, and another body shot by Pedro Guevara.
09:57 Guevara's sticking to what works, man.
09:58 He's got that right hand over the top,
09:59 and he's got that counter left hook to the pit of the stomach.
10:01 Ooh, good jab there from Herrera.
10:03 Quick hands from Miguel Herrera.
10:04 And that's something you've got to see more of from Herrera,
10:07 is the jab.
10:07 He's not really jabbing.
10:08 For a guy who moves, dude, you've got to use your jab.
10:11 He only jabs when he has to.
10:13 He should be looking for moments to jab.
10:15 Good right on the return over the top.
10:19 Herrera's looking a little better,
10:21 but getting hit a lot.
10:23 Getting hit with good right hands, left hands.
10:25 Also being forced to fight when he doesn't want to.
10:28 That ultimately starts to undo you a little bit.
10:30 You can't get control of the pace of a fight.
10:36 Herrera mentioning the head there.
10:38 Seemed like there might have been a clash again.
10:40 Well, excuse me.
10:43 The first one wasn't a clash.
10:44 Like you said, it was an elbow.
10:46 That caused the--
10:46 Or a shoulder, yeah.
10:47 Shoulder, rather.
10:48 That caused the cut.
10:50 Four, five straight jabs thrown by the former champion.
10:53 Nice jab to the pit of the stomach.
10:55 That stab jab.
10:56 That stopped Herrera right in his tracks.
10:58 Herrera has only been stopped once in his career,
11:01 and that was at 112 pounds.
11:03 That was in a flyweight fight, our main event tonight.
11:07 Super flyweight at 115.
11:11 You're right, Goldie.
11:12 Herrera has some fast hands.
11:13 When he lets those hands go, they're quick.
11:17 Just got to be more consistent.
11:19 Oh, great uppercut.
11:20 Beautiful uppercut.
11:21 Yeah, that shot selection from the veteran.
11:23 Oh!
11:24 Again.
11:24 Oh, he's hurt.
11:25 You can't miss now.
11:27 20 seconds left in round number three.
11:31 Pedro Guevara looking outstanding here
11:34 in the final 30 seconds.
11:35 That's a tricky shot to throw from the outside.
11:37 That uppercut right through the middle
11:38 split the guard from far away.
11:40 Yeah, you see that sometimes on Mexican fighters.
11:42 I remember Navarrete used it against Dog Bowl.
11:44 Oh, yeah.
11:45 Oh, yeah.
11:46 You see that at times from these Mexican fighters,
11:49 and it works for them, too.
11:50 [bell ringing]
11:55 I remember speaking to Navarrete,
11:56 he knocked out Ruben Villa with that long, long lead uppercut.
12:00 Yeah, he's one of those guys, he likes it.
12:02 He prefers it.
12:03 Wow.
12:04 I mean, that was as precise as you can get.
12:06 Beautiful lead straight right hand.
12:07 And there's that uppercut right through the middle.
12:09 And that was the punch that probably had the most effect
12:12 on Herrera.
12:12 He didn't see-- you see his legs there.
12:14 I thought he changed it up.
12:15 He usually gives that same look and throws the right hand,
12:17 then he was landing it.
12:18 And now all of a sudden, he flipped-- he switched it
12:20 on him and brought it from underneath.
12:21 Tags move experience from the former champion.
12:24 [speaking spanish]
12:27 Caught under control as this main event continues.
12:31 Mike Goldberg, the Magic Band, Pauly Molinaggi, Chris Algieri,
12:34 a Wednesday night of fights here on your boxing channel,
12:39 ProBoxTV.
12:40 [speaking spanish]
12:43 You know the expression of, there are levels to this.
12:47 We are definitely seeing a world champion
12:50 at a different level.
12:51 Now that does not mean that those fast hands and the heart
12:57 and ambition of 27-year-old Miguel Herrera
13:01 can't turn things around.
13:02 But so far, the champ has looked outstanding.
13:04 And there's that big snapping jab again that lands.
13:08 Oh, beautiful right hand.
13:10 He mixes things up so well.
13:13 And he has his distances settled really, really well.
13:15 He knows what punches to use at what distance.
13:17 You see his shot selection is very, very good.
13:19 Depending on what distance he's at,
13:20 he's really very understanding of it.
13:22 Because he adjusts the punches according to his distances.
13:24 You see how he threw that right hand a little bit different
13:26 because he was a little bit further out.
13:27 He adjusts the way he throws each shot depending
13:30 on the distance that he's at.
13:32 Yeah, the punch variation is a beautiful thing from Guevara.
13:35 He's really mixing things up really nice.
13:37 I get the feeling like he's, oh, jeez,
13:40 he's going to step it up too.
13:42 Because he's picking his single shots.
13:44 He's getting his man a little bit tired.
13:45 But when he wants to put his stuff together,
13:47 this could be the end of the fight.
13:49 And Herrera fighting like he's allergic to throwing a jab too,
13:51 which doesn't help his cause.
13:52 Because if you want to fight defensively,
13:55 if you use your jab and not the right hand from Guevara,
13:58 I mean, it's a free entrance in.
13:59 You know, you've got a guy not using his jab.
14:01 You can close the gap much easier
14:03 when a guy's not using his jab.
14:04 He throws it every once in a blue
14:05 like he just threw one there.
14:07 And again, a good combination of that right hand layup.
14:09 Serves the uppercut.
14:10 Mixed in the uppercut again.
14:12 Like you said, champ, he makes it look like it's
14:13 going to be the right hand over the top.
14:14 But he throws the uppercut right through the middle.
14:16 Yeah, I remember Roy Jones once told me, when you set a trap,
14:18 you've got to set the table the same way every time.
14:20 So it looks like one thing, and then it
14:22 becomes something else, you know?
14:23 And Guevara's really doing a very good job there
14:26 of setting the table a certain way
14:27 and then flipping the reality of what's coming.
14:31 And Herrera still moving to his left,
14:33 moving into that right hand, consistently
14:36 stepping to his left side.
14:38 I believe there's a cut over the eye now of Herrera.
14:41 Yeah, it's also got to come to the point
14:43 where you've got to get so many structures on the corner.
14:45 Either don't move to the right hand
14:46 or change your level a little bit when you move
14:49 towards your left or move to your right.
14:52 Or just use your jab.
14:54 Do something, dude.
14:55 I mean, there's no adjustments from Herrera
14:57 one round to the next.
14:59 Man, I would not want Paulie Monaghi to be my coach.
15:01 I feel like I'd be getting yelled at a lot.
15:04 Come on, man.
15:06 Do something.
15:07 Something's a common sense, man.
15:09 They're so simple sometimes.
15:11 I don't know.
15:15 An energized magic man when he's just speaking normally to us,
15:19 Chris, is kind of like being yelled at,
15:20 in a good way, of course.
15:21 Hey, he's from Brooklyn.
15:22 That's the Brooklyn way.
15:24 Exactly.
15:25 Again--
15:29 Oh, good body shot.
15:31 Mixed that up.
15:32 --the champ goes to the body.
15:33 We saw the quick hands of Herrera, Chris,
15:36 that we talked about earlier.
15:37 But it's just the world champ looking
15:41 to extend his win streak to 10.
15:43 And so far, so good.
15:45 Listen, Herrera's tough.
15:47 He's been taking some really big clean shots from a guy who's
15:49 got legit power.
15:50 I mean, Guevara has 22 knockouts.
15:53 And Herrera has 22 wins.
15:55 Yeah, I'm telling you.
15:56 And Guevara, on this kind of win streak,
15:58 he will be a world champion again soon, or at least
16:00 be putting himself in position to be fighting for one
16:03 of those world championships.
16:05 Beautiful counter right hand right over the top.
16:07 And that even counters the lead that goes over the jab.
16:09 And you mentioned that Herrera doesn't throw the jab.
16:11 That might be the reason, because that right hand has not
16:14 been missing all night long.
16:15 He wants to keep it at home, although he
16:16 does drop it much-- a lot.
16:18 He's got no defense with that right hand.
16:19 Yeah, I mean--
16:22 So in two weeks, live from our world headquarters
16:25 here in Tampa, July 26, we come to you
16:29 from the Kissimmee Civic Center in central Florida,
16:32 Mexico's Orlando Gonzalez, now training in South Florida,
16:36 enters with a 13-2-1 record.
16:38 Set to fight 16-1, Demon Ramiro Cicina.
16:44 13 of those 16 wins by knockout.
16:47 Join us from Kissimmee Civic Center, July 26,
16:51 right here on Pro Box TV.
16:53 Our main event continues.
17:00 Round number five, scheduled for 10.
17:03 [chatter]
17:06 Pedro Guevara looking very good.
17:10 Herrera with those quick hands, though.
17:14 Still showing that he's game and wants to be in this fight.
17:17 He's having a good first 30 seconds of this round,
17:19 just coming out, just throwing punches, being aggressive.
17:21 It's a different rhythm.
17:22 He's moving his head.
17:23 He's punching off the head movement.
17:25 He's giving Guevara something to think about.
17:26 And while Guevara's thinking, you know,
17:28 Herrera's throwing off that head movement.
17:30 That's what you want to do.
17:31 You want to change that rhythm up a little bit.
17:33 Give your opponent something to think about.
17:34 He's finally doing it, instead of just running all over the
17:36 place and not throwing jabs.
17:38 Now we're seeing some of Guevara's
17:39 counter-punching ability, because he's got a man who's
17:41 actually leading.
17:42 Really a concerted effort to get the head movement going here
17:48 for Herrera.
17:49 And if you punch off that, you start to throw your opponent
17:52 off a little bit.
17:53 You see Guevara taking a couple of steps back now,
17:54 trying to reassess the new target that he's being
17:57 presented by the head movement.
17:58 Because at this rate, he's becoming a target for Herrera.
18:01 Well, I mean, if you eat four to five right hands around,
18:05 I would start moving my head, too.
18:06 Herrera finally got the memo in the fifth round.
18:09 We talked about common sense and finally hit him.
18:11 Or at least he did in the corner, maybe, you know?
18:13 Well, the first half of this round number five, guys,
18:16 Herrera looks like a different fighter.
18:18 Yeah, and it seems like Guevara has to figure out this new
18:21 fighter in front of him.
18:22 It slowed down his offensive attack quite a bit.
18:25 Probably.
18:26 Quite a bit.
18:28 Pro Box TV, your boxing channel 24/7.
18:33 Talk shows, news, seven days a week.
18:36 Live fights every other Wednesday.
18:38 Oh.
18:40 50/50 fights, great matchups like the one
18:42 we have right here, right now.
18:44 Sinaloa trying to go 3-0 at home.
18:48 Hernandez having a much better round.
18:49 He's landing some good shots.
18:51 Yeah, he'll come back right--
18:52 Oh.
18:53 Oh.
18:53 But the champ answers there, right on cue.
18:56 Body uppercut.
18:57 Yeah, that's a nice double.
18:58 Oh.
18:59 Right over the top.
19:00 And a left hand on top of that as well.
19:03 Great flurry by Pedro Guevara.
19:07 He's figured out the new target, guys.
19:10 Yeah, I mean, Herrera spent a lot of energy in the first half
19:12 of this round as well.
19:14 Yeah, a lot of head movement like that
19:16 will also burn energy.
19:17 Yep.
19:19 And someone as experienced and successful--
19:23 Good body shot.
19:24 --as the former champion, maybe he
19:26 was just waiting for his chance to do this late in the round.
19:29 That body shot did a lot of damage.
19:30 Yeah, and now Herrera's trying to hold on,
19:31 trying to get some breath back.
19:34 It turned bad real quick for--
19:36 Yeah, he was having a good round,
19:38 and then it turned real bad, like you said.
19:40 15 seconds on the clock, round number five.
19:43 And Herrera-- I mean, I'm sorry, Guevara has not wasted much
19:46 energy at all tonight.
19:47 He's looking very fresh, still picking his punches
19:50 really well, very aware.
19:53 Big swing and a miss by Herrera.
19:55 Excellent round.
20:01 Good start, good start from Herrera.
20:03 But Guevara finished way stronger,
20:06 did some real damage.
20:08 Oh, man.
20:09 You see his legs stepping up there.
20:11 What a shot.
20:12 He's laying out and--
20:13 And look at the left hook he comes back with here.
20:15 Boom.
20:16 Good on Herrera staying on his feet there.
20:18 Yeah.
20:18 Good shot.
20:19 That twisted his head all the way around.
20:21 And his knees kind of buckled a little bit.
20:22 Oh.
20:24 Especially the follow up, but you saw that hook too.
20:26 Yeah.
20:27 That's an empty shot.
20:30 And then moments later, hey, what a good body shot.
20:31 Left hook to the liver.
20:32 Had a little bit of stuff.
20:36 Guevara has not lost, as I mentioned, since October 2017.
20:43 And that was in a fight for the WBC flyweight title.
20:51 You can see the skill set of the champion from Sinaloa,
20:58 Pedro Guevara.
21:00 Our main event continues, scheduled for 10.
21:04 This is round six.
21:05 Black trunks for Guevara, black and white trunks
21:08 for Miguel Herrera.
21:10 I just cheated and stole an answer off of my partner
21:14 Goldie's test just now.
21:16 And Herrera has only been stopped one time,
21:20 but it was by a cut.
21:22 So he's got a good chin, obviously.
21:24 He's been taking some huge shots from a guy who's
21:25 actually a pretty good puncher.
21:27 So oof.
21:29 By a cut, Chris, and at flyweight.
21:31 So at 112.
21:32 Yeah, it was the first round.
21:33 Yeah, quick.
21:34 Yeah.
21:35 We saw earlier tonight, Marquez had never been stopped.
21:41 And he learned how to get stopped.
21:43 Oh, there's that uppercut again.
21:45 Herrera's got some beard.
21:50 Yeah, he's been putting it together
21:52 despite some very clean shots that have hit him.
21:55 Consistently, too.
21:56 And shots that he doesn't see, also, he's been getting hit
21:58 with and still has been standing up to them.
22:01 But again, no jab from Herrera.
22:02 I mean, it's nonexistent.
22:04 Look how long he's waiting.
22:06 You could be jabbing here.
22:07 Instead, he's allowing Guevara to consistently be first.
22:10 Every year, every once in a while, he uses it there.
22:12 But you see, he's looking for bigger shots to throw instead
22:15 of just keeping it simple, using the jab
22:18 and keeping Guevara busy on that jab.
22:20 And it allows Guevara to get close as well.
22:24 Another reason why Guevara is able to land so easily.
22:26 There's nothing stopping him from entering the punch zone.
22:30 Good jab by Herrera a moment ago.
22:31 Snapped the head of Guevara back.
22:34 He's allowing Guevara just to walk up to him and set up shots.
22:37 And that's what he's doing.
22:38 He's just setting traps, looking to, like you said,
22:39 set the table and land the big shots that he's
22:42 been landing all night long.
22:44 Oh, again with that right hand.
22:47 And he started it with the jab.
22:50 And Herrera still moving to his left.
22:52 And then changes levels and throws
22:54 a left hook to the body.
22:57 One, two.
22:59 No more head movement from Herrera again,
23:02 like we saw at the beginning of the previous round
23:05 when he was doing OK.
23:07 Herrera's not showing it on his face.
23:09 I think I can see it in his legs.
23:10 He's starting to get broken down.
23:13 He's throwing less and less.
23:15 And he already didn't have many answers.
23:16 But I'll tell you what, he's running out of whatever
23:18 answers he did have.
23:19 And Guevara is wasting zero energy, just setting things up,
23:25 walking his man down, picking his punches.
23:27 So relaxed, so brilliant at the basics,
23:30 as I mentioned earlier.
23:32 The fundamentals work at every level.
23:33 Oh, he's got that right hand.
23:35 Another right finds the chin of Herrera.
23:39 20 seconds on the clock, round number six of our main event.
23:45 That's the thing, when you don't have a jab,
23:46 you can't stop those lead shots.
23:50 You don't even give your opponent a reason
23:52 to think about it, you know?
23:53 Yeah, I mean, Guevara's gotten rid of his jab
23:55 because I don't need it.
23:56 I'm just going to throw the right hand, it hits him anyway.
24:00 Another very solid round for Guevara.
24:02 And if it's not a jab that touches his opponent,
24:07 he's pawing out with that left hand continuously, Paulie,
24:10 and then getting that in the eyes of his opponent
24:12 and then following up with big rights.
24:14 And using it to measure, too.
24:15 There's a good jab by Guevara
24:16 that actually brought the right hand after a double jab.
24:20 So Guevara's showing various ways
24:21 that he sets up that right hand.
24:23 [chatter]
24:26 See, off of a feint, he drops the right hand
24:30 without the jab there as he drops the feint,
24:32 and you see Herrera bite on it by lowering his lead hand
24:35 a little bit as he bites on that feint,
24:37 and over the top of that comes the right hand.
24:39 So various and creative ways that the right hand
24:43 is being set up by Guevara all night here in this fight.
24:47 Timing, distance, precision.
24:51 Gravata's got it all tonight.
24:54 34-year-old wants another run at a world championship,
24:58 this time at 115 pounds.
25:02 Super flyweight main event of the evening.
25:04 [bell dings]
25:07 Mike Goldberg, Paulie Malignaggi, Chris Algieri,
25:10 Wednesday night fights on your boxing channel.
25:13 Pro Box TV.
25:14 The champ in the black, Miguel Herrera, black and white.
25:18 Kind of shots that Herrera has been eating tonight.
25:23 I didn't think we were going to see round seven.
25:25 Yeah.
25:26 Yeah.
25:28 But you know, he did bring up he's durable.
25:29 Yep.
25:30 Shows why.
25:31 It was a cut, as Chris talked about,
25:33 in the only time he has lost and been stopped,
25:37 and it was in round number one.
25:38 Trying to go back to the head movement
25:40 and start this round again.
25:41 Let's see.
25:42 If it brings him any success.
25:43 You see when he does that head movement,
25:45 you see how Gravata kind of takes a step back
25:46 to reassess everything.
25:47 And he's able to back Gravata up a little bit, you know?
25:51 He lands some shots, too.
25:52 Yeah.
25:53 Nothing really clean, but--
25:54 Puts the Gravata just in a more defensive posture,
25:57 because Gravata has to reassess.
25:58 He can't just attack recklessly.
26:02 Two rounds ago was a great start, or a good start,
26:05 for Herrera, but a great finish for Guevara.
26:08 There goes that uppercut again.
26:10 Oh, boy.
26:12 Back at the legs.
26:13 Yeah, and that'll be it.
26:14 And that'll be it for that man.
26:15 And another right hand, coming from all different angles.
26:18 I'm feeling his legs, champ.
26:19 You're right, man.
26:20 He's starting to get weaker and weaker on those legs
26:22 with each right hand he takes.
26:25 You would figure his legs would tell him
26:27 to move the other way at a certain point, but no.
26:28 Nope, still moving to his left.
26:30 Yeah, those punches, even the ones that are just--
26:39 Body.
26:41 --off a little bit are starting to rattle.
26:43 And again, to the body, guys.
26:45 One, two over the top.
26:49 You can tell Guevara understands where he's at.
26:51 He knows his man is starting to wilt.
26:53 Ooh, chopping him down.
26:54 And again, like you said a couple of rounds ago, too,
26:56 not wasting any energy is Gravata
26:58 just keeping his composure, keeping a steady presence
27:02 in front of Herrera, putting pressure on Herrera.
27:05 Oh, man.
27:06 And that got the bike going over there again.
27:08 Good on Herrera for having the legs to move,
27:10 to be able to move like that after taking all these shots.
27:12 But they got to stop looking in the corner.
27:13 Yeah, corner.
27:14 He's a fight man.
27:15 I mean, he's going to deal with everything.
27:16 Great fight there on Pro Box TV.
27:19 And the former world champion looks outstanding.
27:22 Uppercuts landing, right hands.
27:25 A few rounds ago, I was saying how it just
27:27 looks like Guevara's looking for a chance to open up.
27:29 And I think this is it right here.
27:30 Yeah, he's seeing the wind.
27:31 He's just starting to--
27:32 Body, body.
27:33 Over the top to the head.
27:34 Body again.
27:36 Uppercut.
27:37 And this guy's tough to tell for his own good.
27:38 He doesn't go down.
27:40 He's got a lot of power.
27:42 Wow, what a flurry thrown against Herrera.
27:46 But he still wants to fight.
27:48 This is where it gets dangerous, though, man.
27:50 Yes.
27:51 Taking too many clean shots.
27:52 You know what I'm saying?
27:54 And he's too tough for his own good.
27:56 He's trying to come back fighting.
27:57 So it'll spur in his corner to not stop the fight.
28:01 And land it next to nothing.
28:02 Yeah, land it next to nothing.
28:03 So you're fatiguing yourself more.
28:05 And if Guevara opens up again, you're
28:08 going to have more problems.
28:09 It's a tough round, but punishing, punishing round.
28:14 And even late in that round where Herrera was trying
28:17 to put a flurry together, Guevara was very calm,
28:20 just reached back and landed another punch.
28:22 But, man, he put together some good combinations here.
28:25 Yeah, Guevara looked like he was punched out a little bit,
28:27 but still had enough wherewithal to dodge almost all of the
28:30 attacks that came back from Herrera.
28:32 Here we see sustained attack along the ropes.
28:34 I mean, landing huge shots, all placed very, very well,
28:37 landing right on the chin.
28:39 Herrera's got some beard.
28:40 Yeah, and this punch selection is nice, very nice from Guevara.
28:43 You know, enters with the right hand, double jab right hand.
28:46 And he's at close range.
28:47 He uses the uppercut.
28:48 He uses the shots around the side.
28:50 He'll touch the body, really showing
28:52 the complete offensive repertoire.
28:54 As Herrera, it's showing--
28:56 he's being more and more helpless.
28:58 You know, he's trying to move and get out
28:59 of the way in some of those shots,
29:00 but taking a lot of clean shots there.
29:04 And as I mentioned earlier, Miguel Herrera
29:06 is trained by his father.
29:07 His father's in the corner tonight.
29:09 Our main event continues.
29:13 Round eight, scheduled for 10.
29:16 I'm Guevara.
29:17 I'm in the corner like, what do I got to do to get this guy out
29:19 of here?
29:21 Or put him down, anything.
29:22 He's wobbled him a few times, but hasn't had him, like,
29:25 seriously, seriously hurt.
29:28 I think as soon as he does have him hurt,
29:31 either the rightful stop or the corner.
29:34 Guevara, as you guys have pointed out,
29:35 just so composed, so relaxed, so fundamentally sound.
29:40 Like right there, just leans back a little bit,
29:42 returns fire.
29:44 Former world champion with 42 fights under his belt.
29:48 Yeah, he opens up the round kind of patient,
29:51 lets Herrera try to figure something out.
29:53 Herrera then doesn't figure anything out,
29:54 and then Guevara starts.
29:56 Well, every round, Herrera comes out energetic.
29:57 He's got that side-by-side head movement.
29:59 He throws a couple of shots.
30:00 He's got a lot of energy.
30:01 He's got a lot of energy.
30:02 He's got that side-by-side head movement.
30:03 He throws a couple combinations, and then Guevara takes over.
30:06 [laughs]
30:08 And usually, it's at the point where Herrera's head movement
30:10 stops when Guevara lands one good shot, you know?
30:13 And then the rest of the round, it's all downhill from there.
30:15 And going back to what you guys talked about earlier,
30:20 the fifth round was the perfect example of it.
30:22 Herrera came out on fire.
30:24 He landed punches.
30:25 It was the best start of a round.
30:27 It was the best production of the whole fight,
30:29 and then this happened.
30:30 Beautiful hook off the jab.
30:32 With the right hand, that's going
30:32 to stop all the head movement and just yell it up.
30:35 Now we're seeing the rest of the assault once again.
30:39 Different angles, different looks,
30:43 connecting at a very high percentage.
30:47 Yeah, I would not want to see Kaepernick
30:49 Voxlemmers on this.
30:50 Yeah.
30:51 Percentage and power shots landed.
30:52 Jab.
31:00 One, two, three, fundamental, and right
31:02 on the chin of his opponent.
31:04 And that's why you throw in combination.
31:05 Just in case the first shots don't land,
31:06 you have to catch them on the end.
31:07 And a great example there was Guevara
31:09 missing the one, two right there,
31:10 and then landing the hook nice and clean.
31:13 Yeah, Guevara's made the left hook the weapon of this round.
31:15 It's been the right hand all night long.
31:16 He's like, ah, let me try-- he's taking the right.
31:18 Let me try the left.
31:21 And again, there it is right on cue, Chris.
31:23 Good call.
31:24 I love that, that hook off the jab.
31:26 You don't see that much these days.
31:27 It's an old school move.
31:28 Does it beautifully.
31:29 Yeah, there's the one, three again.
31:31 And then he leads with that right hand.
31:38 Herrera is tough.
31:40 And his shots coming from over the top, underneath,
31:42 in combination here.
31:43 I mean, again, beautiful work by Guevara.
31:46 Textbook, all of that.
31:47 And Herrera not punching back.
31:49 There he is now.
31:50 But again, he looks very, very helpless as he's
31:53 in the corner.
31:54 Even when he punches back, honestly, he looks kind
31:55 of helpless and just out of answers
31:57 on how to stop this assault.
31:59 You were talking about how Guevara's thinking,
32:00 how do I make this-- stop this guy?
32:02 But Herrera's probably thinking, how do I get this guy off of me?
32:04 I can't stop this.
32:05 And even when he shows some energy and his quickness,
32:14 his athleticism at the end of the round,
32:16 Guevara just avoids any type of damage.
32:18 Now, the fight has been the fight of the right hand
32:26 for Guevara.
32:27 He couldn't miss all night long.
32:29 And now he's kind of switched up and gone to the left hook.
32:31 We saw that hook off the jab several times that round.
32:34 Some of them landing very, very clean.
32:36 I mean, he's throwing-- he's showing the full arsenal.
32:38 Complete dominance from Guevara so far.
32:41 I mean, just too much game.
32:44 Too much technique, too much skill, too much experience.
32:47 And he has never been stopped in his professional career.
32:56 Only losses were majority or split decisions
33:01 that went the way of his opponent.
33:04 In fact, has not lost, as I mentioned earlier,
33:09 in about 5 and 1/2 years.
33:13 As we move to round number 9 of our main event of the evening,
33:20 Guevara in the black, Herrera in the black and white.
33:24 Big shot from Herrera.
33:26 Nice straight right hand right down the middle.
33:28 Splits the guard.
33:31 Big spray of sweat off the hair of Guevara.
33:33 Herrera trying to stay active, trying to move that head,
33:43 trying to set up different angles.
33:45 But it's answered all the time by the former world champ.
33:49 Good lead right hand again.
33:51 Snaps the head back of Herrera.
33:54 [chatter]
33:57 It's a marquee win if you can defeat a former world
34:05 champion.
34:06 But this is the kind of fight you're
34:09 going to face against a former world champion who still
34:12 has a lot left in the tank.
34:14 Herrera's going to have to settle tonight
34:16 for maybe a moral victory of going the distance.
34:18 At this point, he's been outclassed.
34:20 And the fact that he's been hanging in there
34:22 is basically the only thing he can take from this.
34:24 Yeah, it's the only thing he can hang his hat on,
34:26 because he's been dominated every second of every round.
34:29 And punishing body shots there.
34:32 Oh, boy.
34:32 And again.
34:33 And he should.
34:37 Even if it were to be a ninth round stoppage,
34:40 he can take that home, guys.
34:42 He can take the fact that as much as he
34:45 has been dominated by the former world champion,
34:48 he's got the heart to continue to go in there
34:50 and try to fight.
34:52 So two jabs there by Guevara.
34:53 No jabs from Herrera.
34:55 Three jabs by Guevara.
34:56 Still no jabs from Herrera.
34:57 Finally, he throws one.
35:01 I love how he sets up that right hand over the top.
35:03 Now he throws it to the body.
35:05 And back to the great hand position.
35:09 Catches that overhand right from Herrera.
35:11 No problem.
35:12 Hands in great position.
35:14 I want to know, like, you know, a few seconds
35:15 ago, he throws that overhand right at Herrera.
35:17 What do you get out of that?
35:18 Like, you're just backing up.
35:19 You're just going to throw a random overhand right.
35:21 What is that going to do for you?
35:22 Throw a jab, you know?
35:24 See if Guevara gives you some kind of reaction
35:26 where you can follow it up.
35:27 What is that random overhand right going to do
35:29 when you're getting pummeled?
35:30 It's going to run you into that, Paulie.
35:36 This is why you're a world champion
35:38 and why Herrera is not going to beat the first world
35:42 champion he's fighting tonight.
35:43 Like, you could be throwing jabs.
35:48 He doesn't throw jabs, but he'll randomly
35:49 throw a shot like that, which does absolutely nothing for him.
35:54 And at the same time, puts him out of position, too,
35:56 with an overhand right or a right hand.
35:59 Oh, look at these combinations again.
36:00 Speaking of position, Guevara with great position.
36:03 If anybody was starting to believe that at 34 years old,
36:07 maybe Guevara was getting a little long in the tooth,
36:10 not a fact at all.
36:15 Super sharp.
36:15 He's outstanding.
36:16 Great jabbing round for Guevara.
36:18 That's a weapon we haven't really seen that much of tonight,
36:20 even though he's an experienced guy.
36:21 But that round, he really stuck to the jab line.
36:23 It's a really solid shot.
36:24 Herrera, a little shaky going back to the corner, man.
36:26 I don't like the way he's looking, man.
36:27 He's taking a lot of punches.
36:28 He looks fresh as a daisy.
36:39 Yeah, yeah.
36:39 And that was from the shoulder.
36:40 [non-english speech]
36:43 He doesn't take many clean punches tonight.
36:47 As a matter of fact, it hasn't gotten worse.
36:48 If he would have took clean punches,
36:49 it would have gotten much worse.
36:51 That's a nasty cut.
36:52 That thing is wide.
36:53 Yeah.
36:53 Going back to the older skin gets
36:59 very thin because a shoulder causing a cut that wide open
37:02 is--
37:03 Yeah.
37:10 That's why you should never have a lack of appreciation
37:13 for a great cut, man.
37:14 Oh, yeah.
37:15 Oh, yeah.
37:17 Because Marcos Hernandez has done a great job
37:21 keeping that cut from becoming a huge problem for Pedro Guevara.
37:26 10th and final round.
37:30 That's one thing.
37:31 Even me, I fought into my late 30s,
37:33 I didn't deal with a lot of cuts.
37:37 Thank God, knock on wood.
37:38 No, not me.
37:39 I got cut plenty of times.
37:40 And I noticed the skin opened up easier later in my career.
37:44 I think a lot of it also do with my height.
37:46 I was tall for the weight class.
37:47 I think you had to be in the mix a lot more than I did.
37:51 I didn't get cut much.
37:52 That's why you're the pretty one here.
37:56 There you go.
37:57 I'm one of those hockey players, you know?
37:58 I got a lot of--
38:00 You got all your teeth still?
38:01 Yeah, all of the new ones that I've
38:03 been casting thousands of dollars in.
38:07 You want to know about my real ones?
38:09 They're at center ice.
38:10 Yeah, I was going to say, they're at some hockey arena.
38:14 Guevara still landing that right hand all night.
38:16 That's still taking it, still moving towards Guevara's right.
38:21 Story of no adjustments.
38:24 And I'm old enough, Paulie and Chris,
38:26 that when I got cross-checked, I got cross-checked
38:28 from those real wood sticks, the Sherwood 50/30s.
38:31 Nice and heavy.
38:32 Nice and heavy.
38:33 And man, that hurt.
38:35 You get that nerve exposed.
38:36 Ouch.
38:37 Ouch.
38:37 These shots, that hurt.
38:41 That has taken all night long.
38:42 I mean, the nasty, nasty shots.
38:44 Super clean.
38:45 Yeah.
38:47 You know, I've waited until the 10th round, guys,
38:49 for Anderson to seal the line.
38:51 But tonight, Pedro Guevara's precision is precise.
38:56 Yeah.
38:57 Yeah.
38:58 Yeah.
38:58 He has been.
39:00 The more I say it, the less silly it sounds,
39:02 at least in my mind.
39:04 But also, you know what it is, the precision
39:07 with the shot selection as well.
39:09 He's really varied his offense very nicely,
39:11 made it come from all angles.
39:13 And it has hurt the ability of Herrera
39:16 to at least be able to anticipate anything.
39:17 Because part of having a good defense
39:19 is being able to anticipate.
39:20 But Herrera has not been able to anticipate
39:21 what Guevara's doing, because he's
39:23 punching from such good positions,
39:24 and he's varying them all.
39:26 One of the highest compliments I could give someone
39:28 is that they're a complete fighter.
39:30 And that's what Guevara really is, a complete fighter,
39:32 defensively, defensively to fundamentals,
39:34 to power shots, to jabs.
39:36 He does it all well.
39:37 Boxing 101.
39:41 And as we sit and call this fight, it's enjoyable to watch.
39:49 And these are the type of fights that we bring you
39:51 every other Wednesday on Pro Box TV.
39:53 I mean, this is a fun performance to watch,
39:57 and one that young fighters could definitely learn from.
40:00 I was thinking the same thing, Goy.
40:01 I think they should take out their notepad here.
40:03 This guy's doing some really nice, savvy stuff in there.
40:06 Even the subtle stuff, you know, and really, really good stuff.
40:11 Cesario Castro got the win, but young fighters
40:15 don't start like that.
40:16 Fight the whole fight like this man just
40:18 did, as they go the distance.
40:21 Pedro Guevara, outstanding performance.
40:26 His win streak will move to 10.
40:29 [crowd cheering]
40:32 We're going to see a lot of one-way traffic here.
40:38 And as we replay the shots from tonight--
40:42 Show a lot of right hands, too, right?
40:44 Oh, boy.
40:45 Guevara, he could not miss the right hand all night long.
40:47 The jab was actually something that came later in the fight.
40:49 He wasn't using it much early on, using the lead right.
40:52 But the jabs came on super sharp, really couldn't miss.
40:56 Herrera's got some beard.
40:57 He took a tremendous amount of punches tonight, clean punches.
41:00 Pedro Guevara will earn the 40th victory
41:09 of his professional career.
41:11 Here's our fight recap.
41:16 You see the smooth, clinical boxing of Pedro Guevara.
41:25 All night long, beautiful stuff.
41:27 The right hand, couldn't miss early on.
41:29 And sort of mixing up his punches really well,
41:31 finding a home for everything.
41:33 Yeah, and notice the different ways he was throwing, right?
41:35 From underneath, from over the top, straight,
41:37 sometimes behind a double jab like that,
41:39 sometimes on a single jab.
41:40 And then a right hand, like a one-two style,
41:42 sometimes a double jab.
41:44 Right hand, body shot right hand there,
41:46 followed by a combination.
41:47 That was a really good moment for Guevara after Herrera.
41:50 Started that round very good.
41:55 This looks like a Rocky movie, the way--
41:57 you never see a guy land this many clean punches.
42:00 Yeah, and sprays of sweat, hitting him right on the chin,
42:05 left hands, right hands, combinations.
42:07 Oh, man.
42:08 And very, very well.
42:09 That hook off the jab, like we were talking about, champ,
42:11 really, really smooth.
42:12 And then Guevara really showed that as well later
42:15 on in the fight.
42:16 That's what the--
42:17 he doesn't show anything.
42:18 They just come right from his hand position.
42:20 It's perfect technique.
42:21 And on that last part of our fight recap, guys,
42:25 you saw the jab, then the left in the face of his opponent,
42:28 then over the top with the right.
42:30 Full arsenal.
42:31 Full arsenal.
42:33 Got his little guy in his arms.
42:35 And a big victory for the former world champion.
42:39 Spectacular performance here on Pro Box TV.
