Ford Donates to the National Park Service, New Ford Bronco Wildland Fire Command Vehicle 2023

Ford donated a special Bronco to the National Park Service and it will be used to put out fires at Bandelier National Monument.

Ford's Bronco Wildland Fire Command Vehicle Is Hot Material
The National Park Service just got a whole lot cooler as Ford donated a special firefighting command vehicle for use at Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico.

The firefighting gear is based on the Bronco Badlands and is equipped with the Sasquatch package. The latter is worthy of Bigfoot, as it adds a high-clearance suspension, electronic lockers front and rear, and 17-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch mud terrain tires.

While this would be overkill for most fire departments, it's a huge asset for Bandelier as the park spans over 33,000 acres (51.5 square miles) and two-thirds is designated as wilderness. Lack of roads and infrastructure is a major problem and could help overcome the Bronco.

The Bronco has been modified by Darley and includes a factory-fitted Warn winch, as well as a grill guard and red accent beadlock wheels. A roof rack equipped with a light bar, emergency lights and a "state of the art communications system" joins them. Second, it has satellite and antenna connections to ensure reliability and redundancy in remote environments.

Upgrades continue in the cabin, as there is a tablet mounted on the front passenger side. It can display live video from the drone included, and Ford noted that this provides firefighters with "enhanced aerial reconnaissance, detection capabilities, and enhanced situational awareness."

The SUV follows in the footsteps of the Bronco and Filson Wildland Fire Rig Concept and was donated through the Bronco Wild Fund. Second, it aims to "enhance the access, protection, and management of our public lands," and has donated more than $3.7 million to organizations such as America's State Parks, Outward Bound, Sons of Smokey, and the National Forest Foundation. This effort is ongoing, and Ford noted that a second vehicle is already under construction.

We'll find out more in the future, but Patrick Suddath, the director of Bandelier National Monument, said: “I want to thank Ford for this generous donation. Over the past 20 years, higher temperatures and stronger winds have caused larger fires that are more difficult to predict and manage.” He added that the Bronco will help them better manage such fires and minimize their impact on local tribes.
