00:00 Hey guys, it's Ro! Welcome to another Nerdy Nummies!
00:15 Today I got so many requests for an iPhone cake!
00:18 Pew! Pew! Pew! Pew!
00:21 So today I will be delivering, I will be making an iPhone cake, and to make
00:25 it interesting, I am gonna be making for the first time ever a zebra cake!
00:30 To represent the white iPhone and the black iPhone, whichever one may be your
00:35 fancy!
00:37 So let's get started!
00:38 The things that you will need today will be 2 large mixing bowls, 2 eggs,
00:44 1 rectangular cake pan, water, 2 small scoopers, I'm using a 1/4 cup
00:50 scooper, vegetable oil, baking spray to coat the pan, you can also use
00:54 vegetable grease like Crisco, whatever you have, and zebra cake mix!
00:58 I love Duff's, this is a really good one, but if you don't have zebra cake,
01:03 all you'll need is 1 vanilla white cake mix and 1 chocolate cake mix.
01:08 It doesn't matter what brand, they'll work just fine.
01:10 Let's put these together!
01:11 So in this bowl we'll be making the chocolate cake mix, pour in the chocolate!
01:17 And in this bowl we'll be making the vanilla white cake mix, pour in the vanilla!
01:22 You're each gonna have 2/3 cup of water, 1/4 cup of vegetable oil for chocolate,
01:33 and 1 tablespoon for vanilla.
01:35 Then for chocolate cake you're gonna add the whole egg, and then for the
01:40 white cake you're just gonna use the egg white.
01:44 So crack it and jiggle the yolk back and forth!
01:47 Ta-da!
01:48 We got our mixes put together, here's our chocolate mix and our white cake
01:52 mix, now we are going to blend.
01:54 And you want to blend the white one first.
01:56 Now you're gonna take your pan, and grease it!
02:08 Make sure you get all the corners and the bottom.
02:10 And what you're gonna do is you're gonna take a scoop and you're gonna alternate.
02:14 And pour them directly in the center and then the cake will slowly spread out.
02:19 And you're gonna start with chocolate, because technically you have a little
02:22 bit more batter with chocolate because we used the full egg, instead of just
02:27 the egg white.
02:28 And then, very quickly after, you want to work pretty quickly so your cakes
02:32 don't set, and pour it again right in the middle, and it will push the chocolate out.
02:37 Fri-dee-er!
02:43 Here is the zebra cake, we just layered and layered and layered, and that's
02:47 what it's gonna look like before we put it into the oven.
02:49 So you're gonna preheat your oven to 350, and this time you're gonna bake for
02:53 about 35-45 minutes, it just depends on your oven, so keep an eye on it.
02:58 Ding! It's done!
03:01 Once your cake comes out of the oven, make sure it's had plenty of time to cool,
03:05 and then what we're gonna do is we're gonna level it.
03:07 So get your cake leveler, mine is become janky, he only has 1 foot now!
03:13 So I guess we'll have to take off his 1 existing foot.
03:17 And we're just gonna level it to make it flat.
03:20 After you've leveled your cake, you're gonna take off the top, oh, oh, oh!
03:30 If I can! Oh, it looks so cool inside!
03:33 I printed this picture of an iPhone, and that's the size that I want my cake to be,
03:37 it's gonna be a little bit of a smaller cake, but that's OK, we're gonna put it
03:40 in the middle where we leveled the cake, and then you're gonna take a big
03:43 cutting knife and cut out the shape.
03:46 This is the same technique that I used when I made Link Shield Cake, I'll put a
03:50 link to that, they, there, somewhere.
03:54 Once you've cut out your shape, got my iPhone cake shape, you're gonna take
04:03 vanilla buttercream frosting, and frost the entire thing.
04:08 Once we've frosted the whole cake, we're gonna lay down white fondant.
04:11 So we just put the fondant on top of the cake, and I'm just pressing down
04:28 lightly so that the fondant will stick to the edges of the cake.
04:31 It will stick to the icing like glue!
04:33 We're just gonna do 1 corner at a time so that the fondant doesn't bunch
04:37 together, what you'll do is just keep pushing down, keeping it tight.
04:42 And then you're just gonna take a big kitchen knife, cut off the excess fondant,
04:46 and then reposition.
04:48 After you've put fondant all over your cake, we got all of our white fondant
04:58 on there, we're gonna take gray fondant and roll it out with this rolling pin.
05:03 I've put down this white stuff on the table as a little bit of powdered sugar,
05:07 Not flour, but powdered sugar so that the fondant doesn't stick to the table.
05:10 And we're trying to get a really long piece here, because it's gonna wrap all
05:15 the way around the cake, to be the border of our phone.
05:18 I found this crazy little roll-y thing at the store, it's for rolling like,
05:22 strips of ribbon that are even and you can adjust them however you want.
05:26 I set it to 1 inch, and I'm just gonna roll out my gray fondant.
05:31 Weep-weep-weep-weep-weep-weep-weep-weep-weep!
05:45 Now that we got the basic fondant on the cake, it is time to decorate!
05:49 I'm gonna be using black frosting with a number 2 tip.
05:52 I'm just gonna make the little speakers.
05:57 Now you're gonna take white frosting and do the bottom.
06:03 Now for the final touches, I've made little teeny apps out of fondant,
06:07 I did these all last night, so they're already pre-made.
06:10 And then I'm gonna take a little bit of water and a paintbrush, to stick 'em on there.
06:16 Ta-da!
06:24 We did it, we made the iPhone cake and my very first zebra cake, so I'm really excited!
06:29 We got the iPhone 5, we have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 rows for your apps and the bottom row.
06:36 Eee!
06:37 Thanks you guys for suggesting it, this was such a fun project, I'm really,
06:40 really happy with it!
