00:00 And we are just about ready to get underway with this very long title at stake.
00:17 WBA Asia Pacific Junior Middleweight Championship.
00:21 These are tall guys who are in our ring, Nonito and Rachel.
00:25 Yes, big guys for a Filipino too as well.
00:30 And these are two knockout experts.
00:34 Inoue, and we have it officially that I don't think he's related to the Inoue that we all
00:39 know, has 11 KOs against in his 19 wins, while Mindoro, all his wins have been via knockout
00:47 route.
00:48 And also Mindoro, what I found out yesterday, is he was actually a spar mate with Yumer
00:54 Marshall.
00:55 That's a good size for two of them.
00:58 Marshall of course, the Philippines bronze medalist, now trying his luck in the professional
01:04 ranks as well.
01:06 So what's going to give?
01:07 You are closer to the fight game than I ever will be.
01:11 When two knockout artists get on top of the ring, you were saying anything can happen.
01:15 Anything can happen.
01:16 As you can see earlier, Mindoro threw an uppercut that landed, and sometimes it can be it.
01:24 So being in this level of power, anything can happen, that's why you shouldn't open
01:30 up.
01:31 And Takeshi Inoue is more defensive comparing to Mindoro, but Mindoro seems like he has
01:39 confidence and power behind all of those punches that he's throwing.
01:43 Is there a tendency to be impatient if you are a knockout specialist, if you are?
01:48 It does, but it depends on your style.
01:50 And I think a good straight, you know the similarities between Mindoro and Yumer is
01:57 pretty similar.
01:58 Oh yes, Yumer likes the short route.
02:01 I covered these fights in the Olympics in Tokyo.
02:04 He doesn't like those long battles actually.
02:07 That's a different boxing form of course, that's Olympic boxing.
02:10 In the meantime, Inoue trying to take it strong against Mindoro.
02:16 The thing about what you had asked earlier is, with powerful fighters that's in front
02:21 of you, you want to take your time, and being impatient can cost the fight.
02:26 Oh, good overhand.
02:28 You were saying?
02:29 Yes, like I said.
02:30 No, I stumbled.
02:31 And that rocked Inoue.
02:35 And usually when the knockout artist sees that opportunity, he pounces on it.
02:40 And I think that uppercut that just missed could actually take Inoue out at this moment
02:44 when they are at the close range distance.
02:48 How important is the uppercut if you want to score a knockout?
02:51 Well the thing about it is, you can't see the uppercut, but the style of Inoue coming
02:55 in head first, and Mindoro being the taller guy, coming in underneath will lead that uppercut
03:01 to be very very powerful, because you have a lot of weight coming in.
03:05 He missed with that one as well.
03:06 And it's a short shot, and that it's delivered straight at the chin, which is a weak spot
03:12 for many fighters.
03:13 In the meantime, Inoue walking into trouble, and Mindoro blasting away in the last few
03:19 seconds of this first round scheduled for 12.

04:10 Inoue getting rock on that one.
04:12 Tense moments also in the corners, and Rachel you've been in those corners.
04:21 Never never an easy moment, especially with this guy fighting I guess.
04:25 No, but Mindoro's corner should just have him stick to his game plan.
04:29 He's doing a great job keeping that distance, him being the taller fighter.
04:33 And whenever Inoue starts to move backwards when Mindoro attacks, because of his range,
04:39 Inoue is just sitting right there in that perfect range for Mindoro to tee off on.
04:45 Yes, go ahead.
04:47 You're absolutely correct with that one, because Inoue likes to throw punches when he's at
04:51 that distance, and Mindoro is giving him that distance for Inoue to want to punch him, to
05:00 want to throw the punch.
05:04 Mindoro, the Filipinos love the KO artist, the slugger.
05:09 You see Mindoro trying to sneak that uppercut right up the middle.
05:14 He wants to end the fight quickly and rock Inoue right away.
05:18 He knows he wants to play to the crowd as well.
05:21 Well that and Inoue has a high guard, which it's open right in the middle for the uppercut,
05:27 but it just has to be timed perfectly because Inoue goes so fast when he comes in.
05:31 And he seems, oh look at that.
05:34 But they overhand right hand of Inoue on target, rocking Mindoro a bit.
05:41 Oh, Inoue coming to life here in the second round.
05:44 I think Mindoro needs to stay with his jab to set up his straight, because that will
05:49 all come together, including the uppercut like he did earlier when he hurt Inoue.
05:55 There is that part of the fight, Nunez and Rachel, where you have to be patient.
06:00 You know you can handle him, but you want to be patient as well.
06:03 You don't want to be too gung-ho going in.
06:06 Yeah, absolutely.
06:07 That's the thing, especially after you hurt the guy, the patient kind of just gets thrown
06:13 out the window because you want to take him out.
06:15 In Filipino, gigil, gigil.
06:18 Gigil.
06:19 That's exactly what it is.
06:20 It's like a shark in the water.
06:22 They smell blood, they want to go for it.
06:24 I like the way you put it.
06:25 I have longed to look for a word that matches gigil actually.
06:29 It took Rachel to be here for me to have the right metaphor.
06:32 I'll forever remember you because of that.
06:34 In the meantime, Mindoro trying to be aggressive with the remaining 40 seconds of the second round.
06:40 Mindoro is putting himself in dangerous territory with Takeshi coming in with overhand and hook.
06:47 Just exactly like that.
06:49 For all you know, you could be slammed and hit by that shot if you're not careful about it.
06:56 Sometimes you don't see it.
06:58 Round is coming down to its last 20 seconds.
07:02 And again, I think going back into the corner, they need to advise him to throw his jab,
07:07 keep that distance and set up the right.
07:10 And while Takeshi needs, Inoue needs to come in and tee off on the body and overhand.
07:18 Done with the second round.
07:21 We will be back here at the Okada.

07:56 I know Freddie Rose needs to have this guy and he would always say that.
08:00 [Music]
08:07 We are being treated to a great afternoon of boxing.
08:10 And we've got Rachel and Nonito Dinaire with us here.
08:14 And in that second round, it looked like the pace of Mindoro was a little off, Rachel.
08:20 Yes, it didn't look like he had that he wanted to control the fight as much as he did in the first round.
08:25 He established a good game plan in the first round.
08:29 But in the second round, it wasn't followed.
08:31 He didn't throw as many jabs.
08:33 He was allowing Inoue to control the ring.
08:36 Let's see what their corner said during the break.
08:39 And hopefully, Mindoro comes out with a stronger game plan.
08:44 Nonito, it looks like this Mindoro young man has all the tools.
08:48 He has the height, he has the length, and he has power.
08:51 Yes, and just a little bit more of experience, I think he'll be a very dangerous fighter.
08:56 But of course, the guy in front of him, you can't walk, you take lightly.
09:01 Because he has more experience with 19 fights.
09:04 And he also has 11 KO's entering this fight here at Okada.
09:09 And being the champion.
09:11 So, you know, with this overhand from Inoue, that sweat just got all over the place.
09:21 Rachel, that seems to be the go-to punch of Inoue. He likes doing that.
09:26 Yes, he does. And let me just say also that this is his first title defense.
09:32 So he's going to really, really want to put out a showing.
09:35 Especially we're over here in beautiful Okada, Manila, Philippines.
09:39 And you know this for a fact, Nonito, when you're the visitor, you have to be more aggressive.
09:44 No question about it. You have to put up a better show.
09:47 That's correct.
09:48 Just a reality of the boxing game.
09:51 In the meantime, Mindoro trying to put up a show on his own.
09:56 Wants to impress the crowd, of course.
09:58 You're on television, you're in front of this big crowd.
10:01 In the meantime, time remaining is a minute and twenty.
10:04 Good counter hook by Mindoro.
10:06 Yes, and that forced Inoue to backpedal a tad there.
10:10 He got hit with that uppercut.
10:12 Yeah, that seems to be his money punch.
10:15 I think that's the one that's going to really hurt Inoue, because he is coming in with his head forward.
10:19 But this round, actually, Mindoro has been very patient throwing the jabs
10:23 and trying to set up a big shot behind and countering Inoue.
10:28 With the way that Inoue comes in with his head,
10:31 I wouldn't be surprised if there's going to be a headbutt, clash of heads a couple times.
10:36 That could be possible.
10:38 Inoue with his own version of the uppercut.
10:41 Nonito, when you're in the ring, when the face lunges at you,
10:45 is it really so big that it's so tempting to fire away with the uppercut?
10:50 I mean, you want to just throw every punch that you can with the guys.
10:56 The thing about fighters is we have a hit zone.
10:58 And when they get into that hit zone, we just want to throw those punches and set up.
11:04 Here goes that uppercut again.
11:06 Here we go.
11:07 15 seconds left. Can he put him away?
11:10 And he's throwing it wildly at that.
11:13 Suddenly, this alarm clock usually tells boxers, "Let's go for it!"
11:19 And very clearly, Inoue, steered and shaken there.
11:25 The next round.
11:27 [♪♪]
11:30 He's very smart. Very, very, very smart.
11:46 [laughter]
11:49 He's very, very smart. Understands the game.
11:54 [♪♪]
11:57 We're continuing with Championship Afternoon here at the Okada.
12:22 And we're listening to Sam Sarmenta here together with our world champion,
12:26 Anita Donaire Jr. and of course, Rachel Donaire,
12:29 providing us with some beautiful insights about this fight game.
12:33 Do you have Mindoro ahead in your personal cards for this one?
12:37 Official, unofficial of course.
12:39 I think Mindoro is winning this fight.
12:42 He's hurt Inoue numerous times, the first round and the last round as well.
12:47 And just taking control.
12:48 The second round could have been given to Inoue because, like Rachel has mentioned,
12:54 he was taking his gas off the pedal.
12:59 That's exactly what it was.
13:01 So if anything, I would give it two rounds to Mindoro, one round to Inoue.
13:06 And Mindoro now picking up the pace in you.
13:10 Inoue is pretty strong to take these shots from Mindoro.
13:14 Yeah, that's a good point.
13:15 And with two losses on his record, the way that he lost was by decisions only.
13:20 So he has not been knocked out yet.
13:24 In that exchange, Mindoro actually got hit.
13:28 And that's where Inoue wants to be, is in that distance,
13:31 because that's where he can be very dangerous for Mindoro.
13:35 Oh, the overhand that landed, because again, getting that distance.
13:40 And this might be Inoue's best round so far.
13:45 Yes, I agree.
13:46 And he is a gutsy fighter.
13:48 He's not afraid to mix it up with Mindoro.
13:50 He's not scared whatever reputation Mindoro might have going into this fight.
13:56 And even after tasting it in the first and the last round, the third round,
14:00 he still is pressing forward.
14:02 That just goes to show how tough this guy is.
14:08 I really want Mindoro to establish his range and distance again.
14:11 I feel like he abandoned his reach.
14:17 He's getting sucked into this brawl.
14:20 Sometimes fighters love that.
14:22 And again, you heard him in the early rounds,
14:25 and then now he's coming in and being impatient again.
14:29 Because in the third round, he was very patient using his jab.
14:31 But in this round, he's like, "I taste it."
14:34 Like your analogy with the shark.
14:37 Inoue doing a good job of clinching.
14:40 Inoue loves this distance. He loves being on the inside.
14:43 Yes, I'll stay here.
14:45 Or I go outside when I can throw big punches right here.
14:48 Time down to 30 seconds in this, the fourth round.
14:53 This round went fast.
14:55 Oh, yes.
14:58 And now, you're right, Rachel.
15:01 Mindoro not throwing that jab as much as probably that first round.
15:06 He looks tired in my view right now.
15:09 Seeing him breathing, and his power seems to diminish a little bit.
15:14 He's not throwing that jab, and that jab is not being--
15:17 It's not dangerous to Inoue.
15:21 That's a good point, both of you.
15:23 Do you talk about this at home, the two of you? I guess so.
15:25 Yes, we do.

16:32 I think Mindoro got a little bit impatient and allowed Inouye to come in.
16:38 And this might be a detriment to him because he's never been 12 rounds.
16:43 Well, I think, like I said, Mindoro needs to stay behind that jab.
16:47 It needs to be an effective jab, a jab that Inouye is going to respect.
16:51 Because right now, he's just walking through it
16:53 to want to take advantage of the distance that he's gaining
16:57 to throw his overhand right.
17:00 There's Mindoro attacking and getting to be anxious and eager
