00:00 Hey guys, this is Jen.
00:01 And today I have another hair tutorial to share with you.
00:03 It's been a little while since I've done one,
00:05 so I thought it would be really fun to show you guys how I did
00:08 what I call a floating French braid.
00:11 As you can see, this is a French braid,
00:14 but it also has these little pieces
00:16 that hang down that kind of attach it to the head.
00:19 And it just kind of hangs and floats.
00:21 It looks kind of boho, a little bit casual, a little bit
00:24 '70s.
00:24 And then I added these soft romantic waves
00:27 to finish off the look.
00:28 If you'd like to see how it's done, then stay tuned.
00:31 So basically, the first step to do this
00:33 is you're going to want a deep part.
00:35 So if you tend to have a center part or something like that,
00:37 just take a little comb or your finger,
00:40 create a deeper part, because that's
00:42 going to give you a more dramatic result.
00:44 So to start, I'm taking just a small section of hair
00:47 from the front near where my bangs are.
00:50 And I'm just going to cut that into three sections,
00:52 just like that.
00:54 I'm holding them in between my knuckles,
00:56 because that's a little bit easier to have control over.
00:59 So we're going to take these.
01:00 I'm using my right hand now.
01:02 And I'm going to do one regular braid, just like that.
01:08 So I should have a top, a middle, and a low section.
01:13 With the lowest section right here,
01:15 I'm going to always be adding hair to the lowest one.
01:19 So I'm going to hold these all in my left hand like this.
01:24 I'm going to take my right hand and grab a little bit of hair
01:28 from near where my part is.
01:30 So up here, right there.
01:32 Going to take this downward in my right hand.
01:36 And we're going to add it to the lowest section.
01:40 Now we're going to take these again.
01:45 We're going to do a braid again, once, twice.
01:52 I have three new sections of hair.
01:55 Take them in my left hand.
01:57 Split them up by my knuckles, right there.
01:59 I'm going to take my right hand again.
02:01 Go toward my part.
02:02 Take a small section of hair.
02:04 And I'm going to add it to the lowest area, just like that.
02:11 So we're going to take these three sections again.
02:13 We're going to braid them once, twice.
02:18 So again, we have three new sections of hair.
02:22 I'm going to take my right hand, go to my part,
02:24 take a small section of hair, bring it all the way down.
02:28 We're going to add it to the lowest, the new lowest section.
02:33 OK?
02:34 Going to do that one more time.
02:36 Once, twice.
02:41 Going to hold them in the knuckles of my left hand.
02:44 Take a small section of hair from the top,
02:47 adding it to the bottom section.
02:50 Braid once, twice.
02:53 Then I'm holding it in my knuckles again,
02:55 just like that.
02:56 We're going to keep doing that as we go,
03:00 adding a small section of hair from where my part is.
03:05 And make sure you're holding these tight the entire time
03:08 as you're going, because that's going to give you
03:10 a really smooth effect.
03:11 So I'm adding the hair there.
03:14 We're going to braid once, twice.
03:20 And here are the three new strands.
03:23 I don't know if you can see too well, but as we're going,
03:25 it's going to start creating a little bit of a ladder effect.
03:29 So I'm going back up to the roots here,
03:32 grabbing some more hair, bringing it all the way
03:35 to the bottom.
03:36 We're going to braid once, twice.
03:43 Putting them back in my knuckles again.
03:45 Now from here, instead of going straight down on my head,
03:55 I kind of wanted to curve back a little.
03:57 So I'm going to be pulling my braid that way as I'm working.
04:02 So we have the three new strands.
04:04 We're going to braid this once, twice.
04:12 And for this new strand, I'm going
04:15 to pull it tight, but working toward the direction
04:20 I'm moving in.
04:23 I'm going to braid once, twice.
04:26 Holding the new braids, grabbing a new section,
04:30 and adding it to the bottom.
04:31 And then from here, I'm just going
04:33 to braid it straight down.
04:40 What you have is a nice, what looks
04:42 like a half French braided braid.
04:46 Or in another way, it looks like a braid that's
04:48 just floating on your head.
04:50 Like it just kind of goes back and down.
04:53 But if I lift this up, you can see a really cool lattice
04:57 effect.
04:57 One more thing you can do with this braid that
05:00 looks kind of hippie-ish is you can take the braid
05:05 and twist the end forward.
05:09 And what that does is it gives it even more
05:11 of a rope braid-like effect.
05:14 So now that we're at the end of our braid,
05:16 I'm just taking a little elastic.
05:17 If you have blonde hair, you can use a clear one.
05:19 I'm using a little black one to match my dark hair.
05:22 I recommend this over the big, bulky ones
05:24 when you're doing tiny braids.
05:25 Now I'm just going to do the same braid on the other side
05:28 so that it's matching.
05:30 And it's OK that this one's bigger and this one's smaller.
05:32 It kind of looks cute that way.
05:33 [MUSIC PLAYING]
05:36 To give this a bit more of a romantic, girly look,
05:49 I'm going to curl the ends of my hair.
05:50 So I'm taking my heat protectant spray.
05:52 This one's just from TRESemme.
05:55 Going to spray this all over my hair.
05:58 Going to divide my hair in half.
06:00 And I'm just taking my curling iron.
06:02 I believe this is about 1 and 1/2 inches.
06:04 I'm starting with my longish bangs in the front here.
06:08 I'm just going to curl this away from my head.
06:11 [MUSIC PLAYING]
06:14 I'm not holding these too long because we want
06:19 really loose, romantic curls.
06:21 So for the rest of my head, I'm really only curling it
06:24 from about halfway down, not all the way up to my head.
06:28 I'm also going to curl just the ends of my little braid.
06:33 For these, I'm making all of my curls
06:35 go the same direction, which is away from my face.
06:37 I just feel like that gives it a little bit more
06:39 of a '70s, casual kind of look.
06:42 [MUSIC PLAYING]
06:45 Now I'm just going to run my fingers through my hair
06:52 to loosen up the curls a little bit.
06:54 Not too fussy.
06:56 So this is the final look.
06:57 As you can see, I have nice, romantic, loose braids
07:00 with these two floating French braids on each side.
07:04 I hope you guys enjoyed watching.

07:20 Hey, guys.
07:21 This is Jen, and today I wanted to share with you my Mascara 101.
07:25 I start from the inner corners.
07:27 And I just take a back and forth motion.
07:30 It really makes a huge difference on the lower lashes.
07:33 This is great for giving a really dolly effect to your eyes.
