“Pakistan on the brink”

Raoof Hasan, a former special adviser to the deeply embattled former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, says his country is teetering on the brink and one push could set it off downhill.

Hasan, a well-known political and security strategist as well as the founder and chief executive of the Islamabad-based Regional Peace Institute, paints a profoundly dire picture of a country in economic ruin and grave political morass in the aftermath of Imran Khan’s arrest and the subsequent explosion of violent protests against the country’s military and ruling establishment.

He describes the current government of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif as unconstitutional, arguing that elections must be held in October as mandated.

Hasan spoke to Mayank Chhaya Reports from Islamabad to offer a sharply detailed view of the current ferment.
