00:04 In the Lombardy region, children receive, after two months, the vaccine for meningococcus B,
00:10 which is one of the two circulating strains in Europe and in Italy in particular.
00:15 With three doses, we have a coverage of 95%.
00:18 After a year of life, the vaccine for meningococcus C is currently offered,
00:23 which is the other circulating strain, and we have a coverage of around 94%, between 94% and 95%.
00:31 Then, in adolescence, and in Lombardy it is offered at 12 years old instead of 16,
00:36 the vaccine for meningococcus B is offered, which is a vaccine that was once the vaccine for travelers,
00:44 because they are strains circulating especially in Africa and the United States,
00:49 but young people are travelers, they go to study abroad, they travel, they go on vacation,
00:56 and a vaccine has been introduced to everyone's reach, offered for free to everyone,
01:02 which protects them from other strains.
01:06 The commitment is very high.
01:08 The commitment is always to actively promote and to recover all the children and young people
01:15 who, for whatever reason, did not show up at the vaccination call.
01:19 We call them with a letter, with an active invitation, with an appointment already set,
01:24 if they do not show up, we send a letter of solicitation,
01:27 if they do not show up at the solicitation, we send another one.
01:31 Then we call their pediatrician, the pediatrician of the child,
01:34 to ask this child why he is not showing up,
01:38 and we ask the pediatrician to be himself the promoter of the vaccination.
01:43 In addition to this, there is a continuous activity of update and continuous scientific training of pediatricians,
01:51 so that they are always updated on the various circulating strains, on the possibilities of prevention.
01:58 Every year in Milan there is a convention called "Milan Vaccina",
02:02 in which pediatricians are invited to participate,
02:06 and in which there is always a relationship on meningitis,
02:10 precisely because it is an extremely rare disease, because we do not have cases of meningitis,
02:15 but in its rarity it is an extremely serious disease.
02:19 So the importance is not given so much by the number of cases, but by the rarity of the disease,
02:24 which is actually a disease that unfortunately is deadly in a number not indifferent to cases.
