Storyline: Sid has just been hired as superintendent of Golden Sleepwear in Cedar Rapids. He soon falls in love with Babe, a factory worker who is also a member of the factory union council. At a company picnic they introduce themselves as a couple, but Babe fears that their different company roles (manager and trade unionist) will divide them, and he's right.
The union is pushing for a 7.5 cent increase in hourly wages to bring production in line with that of the sector, but the company boss responds evasively. In retaliation, the workers slow down production and deliberately produce defective pajamas, but when Babe actually sabotages some of the machinery, Sid fires her.
In the meantime, however, Sid wonders what secret the company director is hiding in the accounting books, which he keeps under lock and key. Eventually he gives a date in the Hernando's Hideaway nightclub to Gladys, the manager's assistant, who accepts her despite the jealousy of her boyfriend ''Hine-sie''. Sid manages to get Gladys drunk, who gives him the keys to the place where the manager keeps the accounting books. Returning to the company, Sid discovers that the increase had already been approved by the company's Board of Directors a few months earlier, but that the compensation had been pocketed by the director himself.
Sid threatens him to send the books of accounts to the Board of Directors if the requested raise is not granted immediately. At the next meeting with the union, the director publicly agrees to granting the workers a wage increase. When Babe realizes that Sid was the one who arranged for the raise to be granted and that the invitation to Gladys was only to avoid the strike, she returns to him.
