00:00 The American Bald Eagle versus the Philippine Eagle.
00:04 Two extremely powerful predators put in a ring to hit each other with their best blows.
00:10 Who would go home with the win?
00:12 In this video, we have broken the fight down into different rounds to see who would come
00:17 out on top.
00:20 Round 1.
00:21 Appearance.
00:22 Easily standing out with its white head, dark brown body, and hook-shaped yellow beak, the
00:27 Bald Eagle has been the national emblem of the United States of America since 1782.
00:34 In case you don't live on this planet and you have never seen one, they are not actually
00:38 bald.
00:39 Instead, they have a white head that is in complete contrast with their very dark colored
00:44 feathers.
00:45 They also have strong yellow feet that are fitted with extremely shark black talons.
00:51 Bald Eagles are known to grow between 2.5 and 3 feet in height and about 7 to 15 pounds
00:57 in weight.
00:58 With both wings spread out, the Bald Eagle measures a draw-dropping 7 feet in length.
01:04 While the female and male Bald Eagles are identical in coloration, the females tend
01:10 to be larger in size.
01:12 You would usually find the Bald Eagle hunting the sweet salmons of Alaska.
01:16 However, they exist all over the United States, Canada, and some parts of northern Mexico.
01:22 In the Philippine Eagle, we have one of the largest and most powerful birds of prey in
01:27 the world.
01:28 Sadly, these gifts of nature are severely endangered as a result of poachers and deforestation.
01:35 This bird is chosen as a national symbol in the Philippines, representing strength, uniqueness,
01:40 a love for freedom, and the power of the Filipino people.
01:44 Locally, this bird is known as Harabon or Harin-Iban, meaning "Bird King".
01:50 Talking about how strong and rare the Philippine Eagle is, the bird of prey is very well recognized
01:55 for its size.
01:57 Measuring its length, it is the largest living eagle in the world.
02:01 They can grow up to 3 feet and 4 inches in height, and with their wings spread out, they
02:06 measure a length of 7.2 feet.
02:09 Like with the Bald Eagle, the female Philippine Eagle is typically larger than the male, weighing
02:14 up to 18 pounds.
02:16 Philippine Eagles have a loud, high-pitched noise that sends a bold and territorial message.
02:22 While the bird is native to the Philippines, it can also be sighted in some parts of the
02:26 large islands of Luzon, Samar, Leite, and Mendaneo.
02:31 Round 2 Personality
02:33 Bald Eagles are popular as very powerful fliers.
02:37 They can soar, glide, and continuously flap extreme distances.
02:42 They are such magnificent fliers that they sometimes perform extravagant displays in
02:47 the blue skies above the earth.
02:49 One of the many crazy courtship displays of the Bald Eagle involves the male and female
02:54 body flying sky high, with their talons locked together.
02:59 After reaching amazing heights, the two cartwheel downward together and break off the entanglement
03:04 at the very last minute to keep them from smashing into the ground.
03:08 Being able to float on water, Bald Eagles sometimes use their wings to row over water
03:13 that is too deep for them to wade.
03:16 While they can be very solitary birds, Bald Eagles are known to gather in large numbers,
03:21 reaching into hundreds when they are at communal roost and feeding sites especially in the
03:26 winter.
03:27 If a Bald Eagle gets his eyes on a carcass, they are powerful enough to bully birds as
03:31 big as the black and turkey vultures away from the male of interest.
03:35 On the other side of the world, evolving and growing in the Philippine islands with little
03:39 or no competition in form of other predators, the Philippine Eagle is the most dominant
03:44 hunter in the Philippine forest.
03:47 Each breeding pair of Philippine Eagles need at least 25 square miles to successfully raise
03:53 a chick, and sometimes it can be double that space.
03:58 This need for space makes the bird very vulnerable to the rapidly growing deforestation.
04:04 The flight of Philippine Eagles is very fast and agile.
04:07 It comes very close to the flight style you would see from smaller hawks than what you
04:12 would expect of a large bird of prey like this one.
04:15 Furthermore, these birds are also popularly known to sometimes attack inanimate objects
04:20 as a form of practice.
04:22 They also occasionally attempt to hang upside down to work on their balance.
04:27 An animal that trains?
04:28 You better fear the Bird King!
04:31 Round 3.
04:32 Hunting and Feeding A large part of the Bald Eagle's diet is
04:36 made up of fish.
04:38 This is why they are usually spotted in habitats that are situated close to water, staying
04:43 close to their favorite foods.
04:45 Occupying the second largest part of the diet of a Bald Eagle are other birds.
04:50 From seagulls to herons to ducks, geese, egrets, loons, sandhill cranes, and pelicans, the
04:58 Bald Eagle will comfortably feed.
05:00 While they do feed on mammals, it is less frequent to find them doing so.
05:05 Their most popular victims, however, include raccoons, rabbits, muskrats, beavers, deer
05:11 fawns, and harbor seal pups.
05:13 Philippine Eagles, on the other hand, have a diet that is majorly filled with medium-sized
05:18 mammals.
05:19 Hand them a menu with anything from flying lemur to palm civets to flying squirrels and
05:25 monkeys and they will do just fine.
05:28 That last entry gives them the title of "Monkey-Eating Eagles" within their localities.
05:34 Some of their other popularly known prey include rats, snakes, small deer, birds, and bats.

05:56 Round 4 Fight Breakdown
05:58 Now that we have done a proper breakdown of all the characteristics of these two mighty
06:03 birds, we need to come to a conclusion on who would win this fight based on the details
06:08 we have given so far.
06:10 While we can be sure that a fight between these birds will be as fierce as anything
06:14 you have ever watched, there is one factor that affects this fixture.
06:19 These two birds survive and thrive under very distinct conditions.
06:24 Therefore, no enthusiast or researchers can easily or confidently predict the results
06:30 of this fight.
06:32 The winner of this fight would not only be determined by their strength or size, but
06:36 also factors like how well each bird does while in the air, their speed, and of course,
06:42 stamina.
06:43 Considering the facts we can lay our hands and eyes on, it is clear that the Philippine
06:47 Eagle is far stronger and more dominant than the Bald Eagle.
06:52 But as we just mentioned, strength and violence are not everything.
06:56 Bald Eagles are very smart birds.
06:58 They create a neat balance between brains and brawn.
07:02 Being smart also means that these birds will also be very resourceful.
07:07 They would easily be able to defend themselves from any of the injuries that a Philippine
07:11 Eagle would inflict on them.
07:13 As for their ability in the sky, Philippine Eagles are popular for easily performing maneuvers
07:19 in any direction at breathtaking speeds.
07:22 Additionally, they do this in both clear skies and between trees in their dense tropical
07:27 forest.
07:29 Their physical characteristics make this ability enhanced compared to what you would find in
07:33 other large birds of prey.
07:36 With that, we have come to the end of the rounds and the judges are compiling the points
07:40 on each side.
07:41 So the winner of today's fight is…
07:44 Drum roll please…
07:46 The Philippine Eagle.
07:48 While we agree that the Bald Eagle is very intelligent and even more intelligent than
07:53 the Philippine Eagle, the chances of the Bald Eagle being strong enough to throw enough
07:57 hits to take out the Philippine Eagle are very low.
08:02 We have already made it clear that the fight will be tough.
08:05 It would be inevitable for the Philippine Eagle to eventually overpower the Bald Eagle.
08:10 The intelligence of the Bald Eagle would only keep it in the fight for so long.
08:14 In the end, the Philippine's flight abilities and strength would give it the victory.
08:19 Let us know in the comment section who you think would actually win and why.
08:24 Also, feel free to suggest what other animals you would like us to put head to head.
