Ahead of independent record store day, I’ve come down to Monorail at King’s Court in Glasgow City Centre to meet with manager and co-founder, Dep Downie.

Now, for various reasons this is one of the city’s most popular places to buy vinyl. When I’ve spoken to other people about covering this national day, this shop has been mentioned most.

For starters it’s in a central location, easy to get to. It trades alongside a bar/restaurant, it’s trendy. It has an excellent range of stock.

But probably its most valuable characteristic is how highly it’s been endorsed by local bands who have garnered global success; Teenage Fanclub, Mogwai, Franz Ferdinand, Chemikal Underground and Optimo, to name a few.

These relationships have given the place special access to limited edition releases and events.
