M&M's Drops All Candy Characters Amidst Conservsative Backlash
  • last year
M&M’s (Mars Wrigley) announced they were taking an indefinite pause from their candy character spokescandies. Their statement said that “even a candy’s shoes can be polarizing.” The replacement for the M&M’s characters is none other than Bridesmaids and Loot star, Maya Rudolph. Conservatives are angry that M&M’s have become more inclusive by changing the green M&M’s footwear, ditching her high-heel boots for sneakers. Then M&M’s released its first all-female character packaging and posted a picture of the green and brown M&M holding hands. Now Mars Wrigley, the maker of M&M’s, is backtracking, succumbing to the pressure from groups concerned with wokeness. M&M’s may not melt in your hand but they did just melt under pressure.

Now their new spokesperson is someone “America can agree on”...Maya Rudolph. Rudolph will star in M&M's upcoming Super Bowl commercial, replacing the cartoon spokescandies. So, will this rebrand stop the backlash coming from the far right? Time will tell.
