Epic Games To Pay $520m To FTC

Epic Games has agreed to pay $520 million to settle allegations by the Federal Trade Commission that its videogame “Fortnite” violated online privacy protections for children. The FTC alleged that the company violated the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act by collecting personal data from players under the age of 13 without obtaining parental consent. That lawsuit also accused the company of illegally enabling real-time voice and text chat communications for children and teens in the game by default.
