TEMPO.CO, Jakarta: The death of human rights activist Munir Said Thalib in September 2004 remains a mystery, although Pollycarpus has been convicted as the killer. Muchdi Purwoprandjono, the Deputy V of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) at that time, was put on trial as an accessory. The former BIN chief, A.M Hendropriyono is often mentioned in the case. The video was an excerpt of an interview with Hendropriyono on December 2, 2014 in Jakarta.

"This person is smart. He is smarter and he has a background in pesantren (Islamic school). In a battle, whether our subordinate shoots or not, to kill or be killed, I hold direct responsibility. This is in a battle, the law is to kill or be killed. But in a peaceful situation, where I am deep in slumber, and suddenly there is an incident involving my subordinate, what do I know. I was sleeping and felt relaxed, I didn’t understand it. Should I be held responsible? That doesn’t make sense. But if you said we are not transparent, why is it one of my men, Muchdi, was on trial?" Hendro said. "That means we are transparent, who is the accused, can be brought on trial. And he was acquitted because of lack of evidence. What more do you want?"
