"RSS and BJP belong the same Sangh Pariwar. However, there are people, aspirations and under-currents.
Modi never likes someone else to control what he should or should not be doing. RSS, on the other hand, thinks that they are big brother. RSS has been helping the BJP in elections and in return asks the party to fully subscribe its agenda of Hindutva.
Whenever the RSS has over stepped its role, the BJP has reacted. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in no good terms with the RSS. After the Gujarat riots and his unsuccessful attempt to dislodge Modi, the RSS prevailed over the BJP completely. Atal was to be seen as dispensable as he was not following the Hindutva agenda. Atal Bihari Vajpayee lost the 2004 elections, not because that India was not shining, but due to RSS disassociating themselves in that election.
Modi has always been seen as an RSS man. But then, Modi’s ambitions kept growing and his dislike for RSS interference became quite visible. He has met Mohan Bhagwat only once after 2014. Modi also threw out Nitin Gadkari from the BJP Parliamentary Board, knowing rather fully well that Nitin Gadkari had the tacit support of the Mohan Bhagwat.
But then, in 2021 the new General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale moved out of Nagpur and made Lucknow his new home. That cut out the support that Nitin Gadkadri would get from Bhaiyaji Joshi the previous Sarkaryawah. Mohan Bhagwat, for now, seems to relegated into the background.
Modi Shah combined have been able to achieve the once impossible. The impregnable fort of RSS has been conquered for now and a cracks in the edifice are becoming more visible.
Its game on for 2024.
