KL Rahul will be the captain in odi matches | What BCCI wants from Rahul?
After the conclusion of the England tour, the members of the ODI team have reached West Indies for the three-match ODI series against the hosts. After the ODI series, the two will square off in 5 T20Is to be played across the Caribbean islands and USA.
Many first-choice have been rested for the ODI leg of the series and a few of them will make their returns for the T20I series. KL Rahul, who has been out of action since IPL 2022, is also set to make his comeback in the T20I series.
Team India's vice-captain is working on his fitness and will fly to the Caribbean islands if he is match-fit. Rahul recently underwent a surgery in Germany. If he proves his fitness, Rahul will be back in the leadership group and will most likely assist Rohit Sharma in the five-match T20I series.
He will also be back as the captain against Zimbabwe. As per a report in PTI, Rahul is expected to lead the Men in Blue in the series. Many first-choice players are expected to miss the ODI series but since Rahul will make his comeback later this month, he might not be rested after just 5 matches.
Shikhar Dhawan is slated to lead India in the ODI series against West Indies and he will play under Rahul if the latter travels to Zimbabwe. Rahul is being backed to be the future captain and was named Rohit Sharma's deputy for the one-off Test match against England.
He has already led the ODI team in Rohit's absence (on the South Africa tour) and in June, Rahul was set to make his T20I captaincy debut. But he was ruled out of the series on the eve of the opening fixture.
Apart from Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav will also make his India comeback against West Indies. He was ruled out of the SA series due to a blow on his hand in the nets.
bcci also wants virat kohli to join in the squad against zimbabwe to regain his form.
