Anne est la mère de Marie dans la tradition chrétienne ainsi que dans la tradition musulmane sous le nom de Hannah (حنّة). Aucun texte du Nouveau Testament ne mentionne la figure d'Anne qui apparaît dans des apocryphes. La dévotion à sainte Anne, limitée longtemps à quelques sanctuaires, se répand dans le monde catholique à partir du XIVe siècle, avec la propagation des récits de la Légende dorée. Puis, les débats théologiques aboutissent au dogme de l'Immaculée Conception en 1854 et ont pour conséquence d'associer plus étroitement le culte de sainte Anne à celui de la Vierge.

Anne is the mother of Mary in the Christian tradition as well as in the Muslim tradition as Hannah (حنّة). No text of the New Testament mentions the figure of Anne who appears in the apocrypha. Devotion to Saint Anne, long limited to a few shrines, spread throughout the Catholic world from the fourteenth century, with the spread of the stories of the Golden Legend. Then, theological debates led to the dogma of the Immaculate Conception in 1854 and had the consequence of associating the cult of Saint Anne more closely with that of the Virgin.
