As Rangers great Ally McCoist weighs in on the 'gamble,' Steven Gerrard is 'near to being done' with Aston Villa | NafiraMadiun
FORMER Steven Gerrard's move to Aston Villa is "close to being done," according to Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor.
The Rangers manager is the bookies' favourite to succeed Dean Smith at Villa Park, and a deal is looking increasingly likely.
Villa are set to make an official offer to Rangers in the hopes of securing a multi-million pound compensation agreement to bring Gerrard back to England after three and a half years at Ibrox.
"I'm hearing that it's close to being done as well," Agbonlahor remarked on talkSPORT.
"I think it's the ideal club for Steven Gerrard because it gets him to the Premier League and allows him to manage in the Premier League."
Aston Villa, the fifth wealthiest club in the English Premier League, has money to spend and will provide it to him in January if necessary.
"Take a look at the lineup; it's a lineup that should be battling for a spot in the top six; they've got some pretty talented guys in there."
Steven Gerrard has done an amazing job for Rangers, and it would be a pity if he left.
"I'm sorry, Ally, but I believe you'll lose him."
Ally McCoist, a Rangers great, is still hoping that Gerrard chooses to stay in Glasgow, believing that the Villa job will be a major risk for the Liverpool icon.
"The longer it goes on, the more concerned I become; it's the best league in the world, and Villa are a top team; I really like Villa," he remarked.
"I feel terrible for Dean Smith; I believe he deserved more time."
In terms of Steven coming there, I still believe it's a risk, but any job is a risk."
