STORY: The sight of queues of tourists returned to the streets of Rome on Wednesday (August 18), a view many feared they would never see again as the country battled with the coronavirus.
Despite the 31 degree temperature many foreign visitors said they were not put off with the wait to admire one of the capital's most visited tourist spots, the Pantheon.
Hundreds of people joined the queue which snaked through the narrow central streets to the ancient Roman temple.
Streams of tourists have disappeared from the country ever since the first Italian patient was diagnosed with coronavirus on February 21, 2020 and Italy became the first European country to shut down travel and instigate a lockdown to contain the virus.
Tourists who chose Rome as their holiday destination did not complain about the 40-minute waiting under the scorching sun.
"It's a bad situation but still people don't care to do these big lines to get into places," Spanish tourist Alvaro Del Rio said.
Before accessing the ancient monument, people had to show their Green Pass, a digital or paper certificate that shows if someone has received at least one jab of a CO
