Brandon Jew, chef at the Michelin-starred Mister Jiu's in San Francisco's Chinatown, is sharing some of his intricate Chinese cooking techniques with home cooks in his new book, “Mister Jiu’s in Chinatown.” “There's been a lot of maybe secrecy behind some of Chinese cooking and I'm hoping that the more people actually learn about Chinese cuisine, the more people will appreciate our culture and our food,” Jew said on “Salon Talks.”

Jew also opens up about his own Chinese-American identity and how food can bridge racism. “By having the most delicious food in the city here in Chinatown, people started to break down a lot of those walls,” he said.
