Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Conor Coady spoke to the media on Tuesday in his first opportunity to react to being brought into the full England side for the first time in his career. The 27-year-old center-back has played every Premier League game for Wolves over the past two seasons and has represented England at youth level - captaining the team to success at the 2010 European Under-17 Championship. But the call from England manager Gareth Southgate still came as a major shock - even his parents couldn't quite believe it and thought his excitement was due to his wife being pregnant again.
Coady is a direct replacement for Harry Maguire, who was withdrawn from the squad by Gareth Southgate after being given a suspended prison sentence on the Greek island of Syros - against which the Manchester United captain has launched an appeal. Southgate's men face Euro 2016 conquerors Iceland in Reykjavik on 5th September in their opening UEFA Nations League Group A2 fixture, before taking on Denmark in Copenhagen three days later.
