World Number two Rafael Nadal took the decision to not defend his US Open title on Tuesday evening. Withdrawing from the competition this year will mean he will have to put on hold his bid to equal Roger Federer's men's record for Grand Slam titles.

Nadal is not the only player to pull out of the Grand Slam, current No.1-ranked woman, Australia's Ash Barty, has already announced she would be missing the US Open.
