"Swarms" of Portuguese Man O’ War Wash Up in Myrtle Beach

Recent storms have been causingpotentially dangerous sea life to washup onto beaches of Myrtle Beach.Last week, a couple hundredPortuguese man o' war washed ashore.Swimmers are encouraged to remainout of the ocean while large numbers ofthe predatory species remain in the area.Though they are often mischaracterizedas jellyfish, Portuguese man o' warare actually siphonophores.Siphonophores consist of numerousindividual parts known as zooids.Coming in contact withtheir tentacles can beextremely painful.So be careful out there, y’all!
