The hill of Lohangi is located just a short distance from the historic city of Vidisha. The time spent on the hill which is about 200 feet high, is still standing today. Temple, mosque mausoleums and pillars are still present on this hill. It is said that there used to be a horse stables of King Rukmi on Lohangi. The same horse which was considered to be quite capable for the Ashwamedha Yagyaa. During the Mahabharata period, the Pandavas wanted to perform the Ashwamedha Yagya by rescuing the horse, but the king built a stables on Lohangi to hide the horse, whose basin still exists in which the horse drank water. It is mentioned in the Matsya Purana that the Pandavas are came in Lohangi and rescued the horse. Another story is told about Lohangi that once upon a time there used to be an Apsara named Vishva from whom the erstwhile king married and settled in Vidisha Nagar to settle Apsara. In Lohangi, not one, but many rulers got the construction work done. When the golden pages of the history of Vidisha are turned, Lohangi gets its name in golden letters. It is said that Lohangi hill was not less than the past. Emperor Akbar was also a prince of this hill. Even today, the fort of Raisen,hills of udaigiri, hills of Sanchi are visible from this hill. This hill is also known as Lohanagi Pir, which has an important documents of history. One of them is the mosque built on the west side of the hill. It is said that Mehmood Khilji built a dargah around 1560 and later demolished the temple and built a small dome. There is an ancient temple of 11th century on the hill where the fair is held on the full moon of the month of Aashaadh. Statues of God exist in many places on the hill. In addition to the temple and mosque on the hill there is also an Ashoka carpet pillar. Priceless documents are scattered on the hilltop. All were devastated by the invasion of the Muslim rulers on this hill, but the few remaining traces which the tourists still see today.
