Manager Gareth Southgate explained on Tuesday his decision to drop Raheem Sterling for England's upcoming Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro on Thursday.

Sterling was involved in an altercation with Liverpool's Gomez as the squad met at St George's Park on Monday.

Both players featured in the English Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester City on Sunday and exchanged words at Anfield during the game.

Sterling apologised to the squad following the incident and posted on social media that "emotions got the better of me".
