Third Balkan War | Hearts of Iron IV
After the inevitable downfall and annexation of the Bulgarian Tsardom, Greece inevitably decided to place their trust and support the Axis, signing the Tripartite pact with Germany and Italy to lend military aid. Tensions continued to rise between Germany and the West, and with the annexations of Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria, France requested to join the Allies, and the British Parliament approved of the motion.
Germany not only began to grow distasteful of the West but also the East, as Hitler set his eyes on the Socialist Republic of Poland. After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, the First Vienna Award commenced and Romania was forced to partition Northern Transylvania to Hungary. Pleased with the results, Hungary signed the Tripartite Pact and joined the Axis. Angered by this bold move, Carol II of Romania firmly decided to guarantee complete cooperation with Poland and its newly established eastern faction, Międzymorze.
Seeing Poland's increasing number of allies, Hitler issued his eastern territorial demands, seeking to reclaim German minority territories from Poland and Lithuania. Lithuania ceded the Memel region to German control, and the port of Danzig was demanded, but Poland refused on the 14th of June. Germany, not wanting to take no for an answer, declared war on Poland the following day. Romania, true to its word, declared war on Germany on the 16th of June.
Seeing the potential for greater expansion, the Greek State moved its troops to the Romanian border and declared war on both Poland and Romania. With the Eastern European troubles at its highest and no official guarantee by the Allies, the Międzymorze would fight on alone. Some are coining it the Eastern War and the Third Balkan War, as Italy would later declare war on Yugoslavia shortly after the official surrender of Romania. The war is not over yet but spells the worst for the Polish faction.
