With her upcoming debut album, Kat Selman (formerly Kathryn Christie) departs from her jazz roots that helped her blossom as a musician and cultivate her new voice, which includes a unique mix of Americana, Brazilian vibes and her own original songwriting style. Since graduating with a masters in music from The University of North Texas, Kat has combined her experience as a musician in Los Angeles and New York to grow her unique sound and create this album.

On the record, Kat Selman presents a mix of original songs as well as a few Brazilian songs which she masterfully sings in Portuguese, and rounds out the record with a Hank Williams song very dear to her heart. Drummer, producer, and fellow North Texas alum Ross Pederson has helped shape the album from the very beginning. Pederson led a crew of fantastic musicians, and also added his own artistry to the project by playing drums and mixing as well as producing the record.

Kat was a finalist in the The Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Competition in 2014, (under the name Kathryn Christie), and as a college student won several awards from DownBeat magazine in the solo singer category in 2011 and 2012, and another as a member of a unique vocal jazz group in 2012.

Her love of Brazilian music led her to study the Portuguese language on the side at her university, and she continues to sing Brazilian music in New York City at venues like the Cornelia Street Cafe, as well as private house concerts. Kat Selman has also toured in Europe as a vocalist with Arid, a trio from Barcelona, Spain with Americana folk and jazz influences.

Kat Selman currently calls Brooklyn home, where she also teaches voice, piano & songwriting at Brooklyn Music Factory, while continuing to perform and write new music.
