Trump Administration
Proposes Largest Federal
Budget in US History The $4.75 trillion White House budget proposal was sent to Congress on Monday. The proposed budget would
increase military spending by
almost 5% and seeks an additional
$8.6 billion for border wall security. It slashes almost $2 trillion in
mandatory safety net funding
for programs such as Medicaid. It would reduce spending
on federal housing support,
the SNAP program and
Medicaid by $327 billion. Domestic programs with an increase in
funding include the fight against opioid
addiction and healthcare for veterans. A new school-choice program and $200 billion
in infrastructure funding are also proposed. The budget forecasts a deficit
in the trillions for four years
and would not balance for 15 years. Democrats in both the
House and Senate declared
the budget dead on arrival.
